Joel 2:28‭-‬29 NIV“And afterward, I(God) will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

Hello beloved child of God, you are loved and highly favoured. I hope you’ve had a great day in the presence of The Lord.

In the previous days, we talked about how to improve sleep quality. If you’ve missed the previous blog posts on how to improve sleep quality, you can go to part one and part two.

Today is the third and final part of “How To Improve Sleep Quality”.

In case you’re not convinced yet, God wants you to enjoy good sleep and to feel rested when you sleep. When you sleep well enough, you are taking good care of your body and when you take good care of your body, you’re taking care of the temple of The Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19‭-‬20 NIV

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Let’s look at a little more ways to improve sleep quality.

1. How Many Sleep Hours Do You Get Everyday?

Most people are satisfied with 6-8 hours of sleep everyday.

Nevertheless, the best way to know if you’re getting enough sleep is if you’re feeling rested throughout the day.

If you’re net feeling rested throughout the day, then this means that you’re either getting too much sleep or not enough sleep.

If you notice that you’re not feeling rested enough during the day, you can either increase your sleep hours (if you sleep for less than 8 hours) or try to figure out what’s wrong.

Perhaps you’re waking up too often in the middle of the night. There can be several reasons for this, including sleep apnea. It may be appropriate to visit a sleep specialist if you sleep for more or less than 8 hours without ever feeling rested.

Also check for the side effects of any medication you’re taking. Some drugs make you sleepy throughout the day, irrespective of the number of sleep hours you get each night.

2. Do Worries Keep You Awake?

Has this ever happened to you? Feeling extremely tired, going to bed, but then not being able to fall asleep for more than 30 minutes, and then having your mind wandering and worrying about stuff?

It has already happened to me several times.

The Bible tells us to cast all our cares upon God.

1 Peter 5:7 NIV

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

If you go to bed and you’re unable to fall asleep even though you’ve tried for more than 30 minutes, get out of bed. Don’t stay in bed worrying.

Get out of bed and pray. Cast all your cares upon God, worship Him, praise Him, tell Him everything which is going on in your mind, and afterwards try again to fall asleep.

3. Do You Have Nightmares?

I think everyone has nightmares now and then.

Some nightmares just tend to wake you up and keep you worried and scared for many hours.

Keep a “dream diary” in which you write down not only your dreams but also your nightmares.

God wants to speak to us during our dreams. Unfortunately, the devil too wants to speak to us during our dreams.

That’s why you have to take every dream (and nightmare) to God in prayer.

Joel 2:28‭-‬29 NIV

“And afterward, I(God) will pour out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

Also keep in mind that having a nightmare doesn’t mean that it will come to pass. God may let you see some things in your dreams so that you will pray about it and be an intercessor.

Don’t feel powerless concerning your dreams. In Christ Jesus you have authority to pray and to decide what will come to pass or not.

When you’re woken up by a nightmare pray about it, pray against it, ask for discernment from The Holy Spirit, pray as you ought, and then don’t worry about it. Believe that once you’ve prayed in The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ it is sealed and done. Then go back to sleep.

Conclusion

Now that you’ve gotten a few tips on how to improve sleep quality, develop an action plan to make sure that you follow these tips, and track to see if there’s any amelioration.

Prayer

Father Lord God King of Glory, I thank You so much because I have nothing to worry about since You care for me. Protect my dreams from attacks of the devil and help me listen to You as You speak to me during my dreams. Preserve me from living in fear, but help me to understand the dreams you let me have and to pray accordingly with faith, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
