Psalm 34:7 NIVThe angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.

Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace.

As for me, I’m pretty fine thanks to Him.

Today we’re going to talk about sleep quality.

Have you ever noticed that a depressed person has sleep issues? Either they sleep too much or not enough, or at times it’s alternating. For a season they sleep too much, and for another season they don’t sleep enough.

If you’ve ever been depressed or if you’re depressed right now, you know what I’m talking about.

Disrupted sleep usually has to do with any of the following reasons:

  • What you eat/drink before going to bed
  • What you do before going to bed
  • The environment in which you sleep
  • Negative/anxious thoughts at bed time
  • Nightmares

Before proceeding, it’s important for me to make you know that your sleep shouldn’t be this way.

If you’ve surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, you ought not to have sleepless nights due to depression, anxiety or any other thing because The Lord watches over you while you sleep.

Psalm 34:7 NIV

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.

You have nothing to worry about. In fact here are a few Bible verses which should make you settled about the fact that in Christ Jesus you are called to enjoy good sleep.

Philippians 4:6‭-‬7 NIV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 4:8 NIV

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord , make me dwell in safety.

Proverbs 3:24‭-‬26 NIV

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

Matthew 11:28‭-‬30 NIV

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

So, in the next few days, we’ll talk about improving sleep quality.

Nevertheless, before starting to talk about the problems which disturb your sleep quality, you need to know if your sleep quality really needs improvement and in which areas it needs improvement.

Here below are a few questions on sleep quality.

You need to open your exercise book and answer the following questions. From there, you’ll have a little more information about your sleep problems and tomorrow God willing we will get to talk about improving sleep quality.

  1. What do you eat or drink in the few hours prior to going to bed?
  2. What activities do you engage in during the few hours prior to going to bed?
  3. Describe the room you sleep in, including the bed, room temperature, and lighting.
  4. About how long does it take you to get to sleep? How many hours of sleep do you get each night on average?
  5. How often do you wake up in the middle of the night or too early in the morning? Does it take you long to get back to sleep?
  6. Do you worry a lot about not getting enough sleep?
  7. Do you have nightmares? What are they like? Are they disturbing to you?

Your answers to these questions should give you a good picture of your sleep patterns.

Don’t miss on checking on part 2 of improving sleep quality.

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty I thank You because You watch over me even while I sleep. Help me believe firmly that You are caring for me always, and help me improve my sleep quality in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
