Hello beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, you’re blessed and highly favoured.
Today, we’re going to talk about “The Seer”. The Old Testament uses two words primarily to refer to a seer: ra’ah and chozeh.
Ra’ah רָאָה
Ra’ah is the word 7200 in the Strong’s concordance and it literally means “to see,” particularly in the sense of seeing visions. Other meanings include “to gaze,” “to look upon,” and “to perceive.”
I Samuel 9:9 NKJV
(Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he spoke thus: “Come, let us go to the seer (ra’ah)”; for he who is now called a prophet (nabiy’) was formerly called a seer (ra’ah).)
Chozeh חֹזֶה
Chozeh or Kho-zeh’ is the word 2374 in the Strong’s concordance and it literally means “a beholder in vision” and can also be translated as “gazer” or “stargazer.”
Let’s look at some examples of Chozeh seers in the Bible
Samuel, the Seer who anointed David King
I Chronicles 29:29 NKJV
Now the acts of King David, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Samuel the seer (chozeh), in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,
Gad, David’s Seer
II Samuel 24:11-12 NKJV
Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer (chozeh), saying, “Go and tell David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I offer you three things; choose one of them for yourself, that I may do it to you.” ’ ”
Amos, the Seer
Amos 7:12 NKJV
Then Amaziah said to Amos: “Go, you seer (chozeh) ! Flee to the land of Judah. There eat bread, And there prophesy.
From the verses above, we see that seers are indeed mentioned in the Bible. Unfortunately, in the world when you mention the word “seer” people automatically think about witchdoctors and different people practising divination in the kingdom of darkness while in reality, in the kingdom of God, there are seers. The devil is just establishing counterfeits as usual. So many Christians when they have problems and they need spiritual insight, someone to see into their problem spiritually and tell them what’s really going on, instead of going to Christian seers who have the ability to see thanks to The Holy Spirit, they rather go to seers from the kingdom of darkness and this is never without negative consequences. Those people work with evil spirits and fallen angels so as to have the ability to see, so know that when you go to them, whatever the devil gives to you, he’s taking some very valuable things in exchange and you may find out the truth only years down the line. Don’t go to the kingdom of darkness for solutions. God has seers who walk with Him and who can help you see through your matter and solve it by the power of The Holy Spirit.
Now, I assume that the next question you have goes thus: What is the difference between a nabiy’ prophet and a ra’ah/chozeh seer? God willing we’ll discuss that in the next blog post.

Father in The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ, as I am learning about seers, I repent of any time I ever admired seers from the kingdom of darkness or even intended to seek help from seers from the kingdom of darkness. Thank You Lord for revealing to me that in your Kingdom there are seers. If I am a seer, open my spiritual eyes. If I need a seer, direct me to the right path so that I meet one who really serves You, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
