The School of Prophets: Characteristics of Seers

Hello beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, you’re blessed and highly favoured.

Today, we’re going to talk about some of the characteristics of seers.

Habakkuk 2:1-3 NKJV
[1] I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see (ra’ah) what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. [2] Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. [3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.

The word see in the verse above is the Hebrew word 7200 ra’ah raw-aw’ רָאָה , the word for seer. This word means to behold, discern, gaze,  see, seer, stare, visions.

Pay attention to the words in the verses above. “I will….watch to see what He (God) will say to me”. Why does Habakkuk not say “I will listen to hear what God will say to me”? Remember that in the previous blog post, we talked about the differences between the prophet and the seer, and we said that the prophet mainly “hears from God” while the seer mainly “sees from God”. If you’ve not yet read that blog post just click here so as to read it. So Habakkuk would stand at his watch to receive from The Lord visually. He would see visions from The Lord and that’s how he would know what The Lord wanted to say to him.

The watch here represents his prayer time, he would set himself apart daily to spend time with The Lord (probably at the same time daily), waiting on The Lord so as to receive visually a message from God, a vision.

The tower is always high. It represents ascending spiritually. When you ascend spiritually, it is easier for you to receive from God because you’re less susceptible to be distracted by the flesh.

Seers see easily when they’ve waited on The Lord, it could even take a whole day to wait on God. They could meditate contemplatively on God for hours before they see something. They depend on the manifested presence of God and/or angelic visitations in order to see.

Seers may also have discernment of spirits.
Seers can receive revelations through dreams. They can even see the heavens open Ezekiel 1:1

Ezekiel 1:1 NKJV
[1] Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the River Chebar, that  the heavens were opened and I saw (ra’ah) visions of God.

Seers’ dreams could be just visual/passive (seeing/observing not actively participating eg. Seeing God) or active (eg not just seeing God but God interacting actively with Him in the dream)

A nabiy’ prophet “hears” a word in their spirit and begins by releasing this unction. This kind of prophecy tends to be more spontaneous and faster than the “seer’s” prophecy, because the seer will first need to wait on The Lord at times for a long period of time before receiving a vision concerning a specific matter.

Father in The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ, as  I am learning about seers, help me to be consistent in prayer, to have a specific watch daily, where I set apart time to wait on You, to meditate on You contemplatively so as to receive visions from You in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
