Hi everyone, I hope you are all fine by God’s grace. Today’s post is a continuation of our series on friendship.
The following verse clearly states the fact that love isn’t easily angered.
1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV
It (love) does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
At times, our friends and loved ones misbehave towards us. They don’t forcefully do that because their aim is to anger us or hurt us, they may not even realize what they’re doing wrong. However, it’s not because they don’t realize how much they’re hurting us that they aren’t hurting us. It’s now up to us, to find a way not to be easily angered.
Let’s look at how to face such situations.
1. Realize that anger is a feeling not a sin
Ephesians 4:26-27 KJV
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [27] Neither give place to the devil.
It’s normal to be hurt by someone’s actions and it’s normal to feel angry. However, in the midst of our anger, we shouldn’t sin; lie, kill, torture, violent etc. Also, we shouldn’t go to bed while being angry. Every conflict should preferably be resolved on the same day it was created.
2. Tell them : The best way to solve a conflict is not to keep quiet and meditate on how much the other one annoyed us and “never” considers our feelings. The best way to deal with such situations is to tell the person what they did and to resolve the conflict (on the same day if possible).
Matthew 18:15 KJV
Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
3. Forgive them: In certain situations you won’t be able to tell your loved ones that they have offended you. In other situations, you’ll tell them but they won’t even understand, and perhaps they’ll blame you and/or not even apologize. Nevertheless, you can still forgive them (even if they don’t ask for it). You can overlook their offenses and forgive them.
Proverbs 19:11 NIV
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.
4. Love them
1 John 4:8 KJV
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
Psalm 103:8 KJV
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
Romans 5:5 NIV
… God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
God is love and God is slow to anger. When we received Jesus Christ in our lives as our personal Lord and Saviour, and when we received The Holy Spirit, He poured out His love in our hearts. As such, we now have this ability to be slow to anger, loving and forgiving like God, provided that we let Him operate in us. You can love and forgive, because God has given you His nature of love and forgiveness.
I found the following interesting image on pinterest. You can save this image to your gallery and use it to manage your anger during lent (and afterwards of course).
Prayer
Eternal Lord King of Glory, I acknowledge that I don’t act the best way possible when angry, and that at times I don’t control myself. Please Lord, teach me anger management in Your love. Thank You Lord, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
