For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David.

Hello beloved of The Lord, you’re blessed and highly favoured.
Solomon, king of Israel, son and successor of David started out very well. He offered a thousand burnt Offerings to God at Gibeon and when God asked him what he wanted, he asked for an understanding heart to judge God’s people and to discern between good and evil. Not only did God give him wisdom, He also gave him riches and honour (1 Kings 3). The Bible says in 1 Kings 4:30-31 that Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt, he was wiser than all men. Yet, Solomon made wrong decisions when it came to marriage. In fact, he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart (I Kings 11:3 NKJV).
Nowadays, as a Christian it is illegal for you to practise polygamy. Nevertheless, whom you choose to marry remains a very important decision. If you choose to marry an unbeliever, this person may end up having such a huge influence on you that you will turn away from God. If you’re reading this while you’re not yet married, don’t make the mistake of saying “I will convert them into Christianity so that we can marry”. They may change for some time and look Christian so as to marry you, but after the wedding, they’ll go back to their normal habits. If they even serve idols in their village, before you realise it you too or even your children will be bowing down before those idols.
If you want to finish strong, marry the right kind of person for you. Someone who is really born-again and someone with whom you can fulfil the reason for which God sent you here on earth.
Prayer:
- For singles: Father God, please help me to marry the right type of person, Your choice for me. Give me discernment so that I won’t marry the wrong person, in Jesus Christ’s Name Amen
- For married couples: Father God, help me and my spouse to be a blessing to each other, to encourage each other to grow in their relationship with God, and to be Christian role models for our children in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
