[But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God.
1 John 3:8‭-‬9 AMPC

1 John 3:8‭-‬9 AMPC

Before being born again, there were probably bad habits in your life. Even though your conscience told you that you were disobeying God, you kept sinning. Now that you came to Christ, He changed your nature such that you’re able to choose to say no to sin and yes to God.

Many Christians are on fire for God when they’re just from saying the salvation prayer. They end every immoral relationship, burn every immoral book, they stop going to places of temptation (nightclubs, bars etc.), they stop going to witchdoctors and they get rid of every satanic object in their house. Some even stop watching TV and listening to secular music because they don’t want to be corrupted by anything. Then years go by, time passes, and they become more flexible and less strict. Before they realise it, they’re back to immoral relationships, theft, lies telling, immoral TV shows and nightclubs. The difference between them and unbelievers lies in the fact that they go to church every Sunday and they pray in tongues, read their Bibles and cry during worship but their lifestyle is basically the same as that of unbelievers.

Today, God reminds you that He wants you to be radical for Him. He’s given you everything you need to practise righteousness. He wants you to make a radical decision today to get rid of bad habits no matter what it will cost you. You may lose some friends and popularity but you must choose Him first.

Prayer:

  • Father in The Name of Jesus Christ, I acknowledge that the nature of God is in me to empower me to practise righteousness and not sin
  • Holy Spirit I pray that you open my eyes today, that You convict me. Help me identify the areas of my life where I practise sin and give me the strength to renounce it once and for all in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.

Assignment :

Go to your prayer room, be alone in silence and ask The Holy Spirit to search your heart. Ask Him to tell you clearly where you’re practising sin. Make a list of all those areas of sin, get on your knees, confess those sins to God and ask God to forgive you. Renounce those sins one by one, make a firm radical decision that it’s over once and for all.
