And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him. Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.
Judges 16:20-21 NKJV
Hello beloved of The Lord, you’re blessed and highly favoured.
Samson had been chosen by God before his birth to be judge over Israel (Judges 13). Early on from his mother’s womb, his parents gave him everything he needed to succeed in his destiny (Judges 13:13 NKJV). Samson was a Nazarite from the womb (Judges 13:5 NKJV). The Spirit of God used him mightily to fight the Philistines yet Samson lived in sexual immorality, he had sex with women with whom he wasn’t married to (Judges 16:1). Surprisingly, even directly after having illicit sex, the power of God still operated and he was able to do extraordinary things (Judges 16:2-3). This probably made Samson to assume/suppose that no matter how much he sinned, it didn’t stop the power of God, and that he could continue to sin such that he even started living with a woman with whom he wasn’t married, he practised cohabitation with the woman who finally accelerated his downfall (Judges 16)
Many anointed servants of God live in sexual immorality or other sins and they still see signs and wonders, miracles, prophetic words delivered, people’s lives changed, money multiplying and crowds coming, so they assume that they can flirt with sin and with the power of God at the same time. Notice that Samson didn’t even know when the power of God had left him. He tried to do as he usually did, yet it didn’t work.
Many people expect God to back them up while they’re living in sin and they refuse to repent. God gave a lot of time to Samson for him to repent and a lot of signs that Delilah wasn’t good company, yet he didn’t repent. If you want to finish strong, you have to live in obedience towards God and you have to practise sexual purity. Avoid meeting alone in isolated areas with the opposite sex, avoid sexual immorality.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, search me right now. If there’s any area of my life where I’m not honouring You, help me to see it clearly and to repent sincerely. Help me to cut off everything in my life that doesn’t honour You, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
Assignment :
- If you’re in a sexually illicit relationship, end it today (not tomorrow).
- If just like Samson, you’re living in cohabitation (the state of living together and having a sexual relationship without being married) move out of that house today.
- Schedule a meeting today with a Pastor/disciple maker/pre-marital counsellor for counselling if you’re in a state of sexual immorality
