Hello everyone, I hope you’re all fine by God’s grace. Today’s post is about our responsibility as friends in helping each other make right decisions in The Lord.
Have you ever been upset about a decision you had to take so much so that you were unable to think properly and needed to speak to someone in order to have things figured out in your mind? It has happened to me already, and I guess you too are familiar with this.
In such moments, our greatest need is to have by our side, someone who’ll help us make the right choice.
When your friend comes to you for advice, it’s not because the person is incompetent or unable to manage his/her life by himself/herself. Rather it’s because they trust you to give them the advice they need. However, there’s more to that, it’s first and foremost God who made it possible that they would come to you, probably because you have the answer to that question.
Someone close to you may be about to take a really bad decision right now (for example : suicide, murder, abortion, drug abuse, fornication, theft, watching pornography, prostitution, abandoning Christianity etc) . If this person tells you about it, it’s not so that you smile and say “after all, your life, your choices”, no. If God made this person come to you and tell you their mind, it was so that you should take responsibility and tell that person what God thinks about what they’re about to do.
It’s your responsibility to be The Bible of those who don’t read their Bibles.
You aren’t there to live their lives for them, but you are there to remind them or teach them what God says about their situation, what God says about their decision, what God says about their mindsets. Don’t just sit there and keep quiet. Please, say something.
At times, they won’t want to hear from you. Perhaps they’ll tell you about what they’ll do without asking your opinion, but even if they don’t want to hear it, tell them what God says about it (not just what you think about it).
2 Timothy 4:3-5 NIV
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Remember that amongst all their friends, you may be the only one who will stand up for the truth. If you don’t, if you shut up then your friend may never hear and never know what was God’s will about this.
Decide today to be like Mordecai who pushed Esther to make the right decision when she doubted and feared.
Esther 4:11, 13-14, 16-17 NIV
Esther : “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.”
Mordecai sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Esther : “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.
Be the one who encourages someone today (and everyday) to do what is to be done in The Lord.
