Hello blessed loved child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace. As for me, I’m fine thanks to Him.
I’ve been reading a few things on the internet these days and many people right now are taking about the new abortion law in New York. From what I researched online, here are a few points:
- Abortion is now out of the criminal code
- Abortions are now allowed during all nine months of pregnancy, right up until moments before birth
I read a few things on the Christian Post on the subject, and here’s what was most striking for me:
“The ‘Reproductive Health Act,’ signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, permits abortions at any point during pregnancy if the abortionist deems it necessary for the mother’s ‘life or health.’ As determined by the U.S. Supreme Court, health not only includes physical health, but encompasses ‘emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age’ considerations, effectively allowing abortion for virtually any reason.”
Today, this blog post won’t be to condemn anyone. I’m writing this specifically for a woman right now who is pregnant and who is considering abortion. Perhaps you’re reading this and you’re not pregnant, you’re not considering abortion, but you may have a friend, a sister, a colleague, someone who needs this. So please, read till the end and share.
To address the issue of abortion, I’ll talk about a few reasons why women often abort or consider abortion, and we’re going to look at theses reasons through the lens of God’s Word.
1. I Made A Mistake
When God created man and woman, He also created marriage, a Divine institution in which husband and wife would freely be able to enjoy His gifts of sex, childbearing and parenting.
There are people who involve in sexual relations out of marriage and who as a result of that fall pregnant. It is often very complicated when this happens in families which appear to be Christian or religious.
The parents of the girl who’s pregnant or the guy who’s expecting a child don’t want to be dishonoured at church and in the society, they don’t want rumours about them, as such they consider abortion.
At times it’s even the pregnant girl who doesn’t want people to label her as a prostitute. If it’s you today, you may be involved in church, you may be sincere in your walk with God but you really made the wrong choices, and now you’re pregnant.
You don’t want anyone to hear about it, you don’t want to feel judged, or your boyfriend may be involved in church too, he may have a leadership position in church, and he’s telling you not to keep the baby because of his reputation.
I just want to remind you that hiding your sin by committing another sin will not make it disappear, it will only amplify the problem.
We’ve clearly seen that with King David. He slept with Uriah’s wife and since she fell pregnant he tried to cover it up by taking Uriah out of the battlefield to his home so that he would sleep with his wife. Uriah didn’t sleep with his wife, so king David made him send to a highly dangerous spot on the battlefield so that he would die, and he took his wife.
God eventually convicted him through his prophet Nathan, and the story was eventually exposed. You can read the whole story starting from 2 Samuel 11. You’ll see that David’s attempt of covering up his sin with another sin led to many many negative consequences in his life, and even in the lives of his children.
We can safely take the following verse as a conclusion.
Proverbs 28:13 NIV
Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Abortion is a sin, it consists of killing a human being. Even though this human being is still small, in a vulnerable position, dependent on his/her mom and growing, it is a sin, because it is murder.
From David’s story, we can conclude that, we have to learn to confess our sins to God and to bear the consequences of our sins as responsible people. Committing a sin to cover another sin is not an option.
So, if you’re reading this today and you realize that you made a mistake by having sexual relations out of marriage, you have to confess your sin to God, and you shouldn’t try to kill the baby to hide it. Just open up and tell the people concerned. It may be your parents, your spouse (in case of infidelity), whoever has to know that you’re pregnant, tell them but don’t kill the child.
It will be difficult, some will judge you and condemn you, some will say wicked things about you, some will reject you but if you’ve surrendered your life to Jesus Christ you can be sure that He’ll use this situation for your good and for His glory, whether you surrendered your life to Him before or after committing this sin.
2. This Child Was Not Planned
This may look quite similar to the previous one but it’s a little bit different.
Imagine a married couple, their careers are awesome, they are both busy and they didn’t imagine having a child immediately.
Or a married couple consisting of young students who are still trying to figure out how to finish their studies and have a job.
Or a married couple which is just about to get a divorce, and the wife discovers that she’s expecting a baby from her husband.
Or a married couple which has lots of debts, absolutely no money to survive and who can’t imagine how they can pay for pregnancy follow-up at the hospital, and even pay to care for the child after delivery.
Rape is probably the most painful case of unplanned pregnancy, and no one should belittle your pain if you’re in such a situation.
Yeah, perhaps this child really wasn’t planned. This was not the ideal moment according to your plans to have a child, but the child’s already here, growing in your womb.
You may be tempted to just get rid of the baby through abortion telling yourself “After all, I can have children later” or “I never wanted this child in the first place” you may see this pregnancy as an inconvenience, and you may see the child as a reminder of your pain if you were raped.
Nevertheless, God wants you to know today that even if you had not planned that pregnancy, God had planned it.

Mem Who shall he be that saith that something comes which the Lord has not sent?
1 Kings 12:24 NLT
‘This is what the Lord says: Do not fight against your relatives, the Israelites. Go back home, for what has happened is my doing!’” So they obeyed the message of the Lord and went home, as the Lord had commanded.
Permit me to adapt this verse to your situation and to tell you what The Lord has for you : “ This is what The Lord says: Do not abort this child, leave the baby grow, for what has happened is MY doing ”
You may have the impression that it is your child and that you have the right to choose, but actually it is not really your child, it is God’s child. He’s The One who created and sent this child. You are like a caretaker but it’s not really your child it’s God’s child. He’s The One moulding this child in your womb, killing that child would mean killing God’s baby.
Psalm 139:14-18 NIV
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.
He is The One who decided that you would carry this baby, so don’t throw the baby away.
The circumstances of the child’s conception may not be holy (if it was done sinfully) or may not seem favourable (if it’s not the good timing in your eyes) or may bring back painful memories (in case of a rape) but God allowed this child to be in your womb, don’t fight God. Obey Him.
I know this is painful mostly for women who have been raped but that child, God is moulding him/her in your womb. Please don’t kill that baby.
3. The Child Is Unhealthy
The first two reasons were emotional, social and spiritual reasons why a woman may consider abortion.
This reason is a little more complicated because it concerns health. I know I’m probably going to make a few people to be offended here, but please read this till the end.
There are cases where upon a few exams in the hospital, the doctors notice that the child is alive but has serious medical conditions. At times it can be malformations, tumours, cancer, genetic diseases, brain damage, etc. Problems which would affect either the appearance and/or growth, development and behaviour of the child.
It is extremely painful for the parents to hear about what’s happening to their child. It is devastating.
In some cases, the medical doctor will ask if the parents want to terminate the pregnancy. In order to avoid having to raise a child with special needs, or even to give birth to a child with a short life expectancy.
Many couples who have been in this situation and who chose to abort would say that they had no choice but …there is a but.
Don’t be offended because I believe in a God who performs miracles.
I watched recently a testimony of a Christian married couple. They were expecting a child and the medical reports weren’t good. The foetus had 60 percent brain missing. The doctors expected the child to be a vegetable. It’s quite an interesting story, you can even look at the video here below. The main point here is that God made a way where there seemed to be no way and healed that child completely. The mother gave birth to a completely healthy child who grew up normally.
We have to start daring enough to believe God for miracles. I know it’s not easy, each one has had times where they prayed for something and it didn’t happen as they wanted, and such things can make us be afraid to ask God for something like healing, but remember that during Jesus Christ’s years of public ministry on Earth there has never been a desperate case, there was no person that Jesus Christ was not able to heal and He is still the same today.
Acts 10:38 NIV
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.
In the testimony you’ll notice that both parents had to devote a good amount of time praying. The husband even left his job as a doctor to focus on praying for the baby. Yeah it may take time and faith but, won’t you enjoy it when GOD would have made a miracle out of your story?
They could have aborted the child. According to the new New York law, they could have given up and killed the very child through which God wanted to make a healing testimony in their lives. They didn’t abort they prayed and didn’t give up until something happened.
4. The Mother is in Danger
This one is probably where someone will say that I sound suicidal.
At times a woman is pregnant and she goes to the medical doctor and she is told that the pregnancy is dangerous for her.
I will divide it into two cases, ectopic pregnancy is and other pregnancies which put the mother in danger.
Ectopic Pregnancy
In the case of ectopic pregnancy, the baby (embryo) is not implanted in the womb where it would be able to grow and fully develop, as such, at the moment of the first scan, the baby may be alive, but won’t be able to develop fully. The more the baby grows the more the life of the mother is endangered. In such cases, where the baby is already condemned to die, it is preferred to protect the mother, as such, drugs can be given to terminate the growth of the embryo, or there may be a surgical procedure (laparoscopy or laparotomy) to remove the pregnancy. It depends on which option is the best.
Last year I performed an internship in a hospital and there was a very prayerful woman who was hospitalized for ectopic pregnancy. She was supposed to undergo surgery for that, but finally she didn’t go through surgery because God answered her prayers and the embryo growth stopped and the embryo decreased in size and then disappeared completely.
What I’m trying to say is, the mother’s health is to be protected if it’s completely sure that the baby would die whatever the case, and this is actually the case in ectopic pregnancies. Nevertheless, all that has to be done prayerfully.
Other reasons why the mother’s health may be in danger
There are other cases in which the mother’s health may be in danger. For example if she has a chronic disease which makes her weak and the pregnancy may even make her weaker.
Here the level of risk has to be measured by the medical doctor. There are many Christian women who choose to pursue with the pregnancy anyway, even though their doctors tell them it could be dangerous for them.
I would here again like to say that I believe in a God who performs miracles.
In such a case, to the mother who is frightened right now but who is already so in love with her baby that she has refused to abort even though this may be dangerous for her, I want to let you know that God performs miracles and He is more than able to make you and your baby healthy. I’m praying that while you’re reading this that The Holy Spirit will come down on you and your baby(or babies) and give you miraculous health and strength.
Conclusion
God is good, God loves us, God loves the babies He sent in our lives. We may not have planned them, we may have made mistakes, it may not be the perfect timing, and we may even be in danger, but God loves us, He loves those babies, He has a plan and He still does miracles.
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty, You know my situation better than anyone else. Fill me with Your love, Your Wisdom, Your Holy Spirit so that I may go through life prayerfully and completely trusting in Your love, Your Forgiveness, Your provision, Your Healing power, and Your Goodness, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
