‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:21‭-‬22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
[21] Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” [22] Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Matthew 18:21‭-‬22 NKJV

Hello beloved of The Lord, you’re blessed and highly favoured.

We must forgive as Jesus did. In an unlimited manner if our offender repents. Jesus teaches us that, as Sons of the Most High, we must not be a stumbling block to a brother/sister who sins against us. We must tell them that they have wronged us, to give them the opportunity to repent and save their soul, and if they repent, our responsibility is to forgive them as many times as necessary.

Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. [4] And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”
Luke 17:3-4 NKJV

The process of forgiveness thus begins by letting the offender know that they have hurt us, then them the opportunity to repent and then forgiving their sin.

And what if the person doesn’t repent, you might say, it’s important for us to forgive anyway, so as not to harbor bitterness that will slowly kill us (see Hebrews 12:15)

Prayer:

  • Lord God of grace, we ask You this day to help us forgive as You do. To show love and to keep nothing bitter or resentful in our hearts.
  • Heavenly Father, give us Your heart, so that the world may see Your image in us through the forgiveness we extend to others. In the name of Jesus Christ Amen

Assignment :

  • If there are people we keep in our hearts who have offended us but they don’t know it, this is the opportunity to tell them so that we can grant them forgiveness.
  • Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and give us the strength to forgive those who have hurt us many times and always ask for forgiveness.
