Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years. And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”
Genesis 41:34-36 NKJV
Hello beloved of The Lord, you’re blessed and highly favoured.
The Jewish System of Five Jars
According to Craig Hill, each Jew is taught from early childhood how to divide their money. Their parents offer five jars to them and explain to them that every money they receive is to be divided in the jars and used according to the purpose of each jar.
- Jar 1: Tithes 10%
- Jar 2: Offerings and Giving 10%
- Jar 3: Savings 10%
- Jar 4: Investment 20%
- Jar 5: Spending 50%
How will the Jews not be the richest on earth if from early childhood they’re taught to compartmentalise their money, to never use what belongs to God, to not spend everything, to save and to invest. So, while Jewish children are still in primary school, they already invest their money and learn to do business. By the time they reach adulthood they’re rich since they’ve been faithful in little things.
Instead of complaining about your finances, organise your finances and start making a difference. Joseph made Egypt the source of food for the whole world because he knew when to save and how much to save. He planned ahead. Learn to plan ahead.
Prayer:
- Father Lord God Almighty, I pray that You forgive me because instead of learning from others about how to manage money effectively, I envied them or I just managed my money carelessly. You gave me seed (money) and instead of investing and saving I just spent everything carelessly. Help me to strategically plan everything I do with the money You give me Lord in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
Assignment :
- Buy five jars or five envelopes. Label each one accordingly: Tithes (10%), Seed (Offerings, ministry, alms) 10%, Savings 10%, Investment 20%,, Spending 10% and start organising your money as such. (If it is easier for you to open five different bank accounts and to ask your bank to divide your salary into the five different accounts each month, do so)
- Ensure to write down everything you put in and take out of the envelopes in your financial record book or on a paper that you keep, one in each of your envelopes
