And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.Ezekiel 36:26‭-‬27 NLThttps://bible.com/bible/116/ezk.36.26-27.NLT

Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace. As for me, I’m fine by God’s grace.
As the year is ending, I’m reflecting on the biggest things that God taught me this year.
Actually, the biggest thing God has taught me this year is the fact that willpower can’t achieve what only The Holy Spirit can achieve.
Before going any further I want to share who this blog post is for. This blog post is directed to any Christian who has already struggled with a habitual sin.
This blog post is for you, if you’ve been struggling with a sin which you keep confessing to God, you keep repenting, you keep casting out demons and breaking generational curses, making promises to God, and yet you’re still in the same sins time and again.
This blog post is for you, if you’ve been trying and trying through your own efforts to become a “better Christian” and it still hasn’t worked.
I know what it is like to have a thorn in the flesh. To struggle with getting rid of a sin and trying every single thing you know and to still feel weak and powerless.
This year as I was struggling and navigating through all this, God really revealed to me that willpower can’t achieve what only The Holy Spirit can achieve.

  • Willpower will not change you
  • Willpower will not transform you
  • Willpower will not deliver you from sin
  • Willpower will not make you a better spouse
  • Willpower will not make you a better parent
  • Willpower will not set you free from addiction
  • Willpower will not set you free from lust

If you’ve been struggling to become a better Christian please keep reading.

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 4:6 KJV

Here’s what The Word of God says.

1. The Holy Spirit Will Make You Follow God’s Decrees and Obey God’s Regulations

Ezekiel 36:26‭-‬27 NLT

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put My Spirit in you so that you will follow My decrees and be careful to obey My regulations.

Is it written in The Bible that your willpower will make you follow God’s decrees and obey God’s regulations? No
It’s instead written that The Holy Spirit will make you follow God’s decrees and obey His regulations.
You were not saved through your willpower but through the action of The Holy Spirit. If you weren’t brought to salvation through your willpower, what makes you think that it’s through your willpower that you’ll be able to obey God?
I know what it is like to promise God: “God I won’t do this again, I promise. You know I love You, You know I really want to obey you. I promise I won’t do this again, I’m sorry”
Next temptation, you stand firm and you think “Willpower works” and then someday comes where you’re weak, helpless, and the devil keeps tempting you and attacking you in your thoughts, your dreams and all around you to tell you that you’re a fake Christian and then when you fall again, once again you confess it all to God, you repent, break curses, cast out demons, make proposed to God, but the cycle continues and you fall again.
There’s got to be more than going back and forth right?

2. The Holy Spirit Will Give You Freedom From Habitual Sins

Galatians 5:16‭-‬25 NIV

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

  • Do you want to be free from habitual sins ?
  • Do you want to be free once and for all from alcoholism without the constant fear that you’ll fall back one day?
  • Do you want to say goodbye to lust, sexual immorality, masturbation, pornography once and for all?
  • Are you struggling with homosexual desires which you think there’s no way you can get rid of?
  • Do you finally want to be free from the compulsive habit of lying, manipulating, gossiping, stealing etc?

Your promises to God won’t do it.
Your Willpower won’t do it.
Looking at yourself in the mirror every morning and saying “I will not sin today” won’t do it either.
God already gave the “secret” for you not to walk according to the desires of the flesh. God already gave the secret for you to not go after your lustful desires and the secret IS NOT YOUR WILLPOWER , the secret is ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Jesus Christ already died so that sin might lose its power in your life. You have to believe it and receive this in faith.
Then, you have to walk by The Holy Spirit. Let The Holy Spirit fill you. Ask Him everyday to fill you.
Focusing on your sin will not help you get rid of your sin, but asking The Holy Spirit to take control of you and your day everyday and to fill you and do His Will in you will change everything.

Conclusion

A successful Christian life depends on the quality of your relationship with The Holy Spirit.
Believe me, your willpower will not solve your problems. It will not deliver you from sin. It will not make you a better Christian.
Willpower says ” I will be delivered and saved through my works and my skills” while Jesus Christ says “I am the way, the truth and the life”
Your willpower, your works, will not change your situation, but Jesus Christ can change your situation.
Romans 6:6‭-‬13 NLT

We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with Him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and He will never die again. Death no longer has any power over Him. When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.

If you’ve already surrendered your life to Jesus Christ then here is the next step. You have to develop your relationship with The Holy Spirit because He is The Only One who can make you obey God’s way “effortlessly” ( because you’re not actually the one doing it, He is doing it in you).
Start your day each day with The Holy Spirit

  • Holy Spirit I love you
  • Holy Spirit I adore you
  • Holy Spirit I invite you, I welcome you
  • Holy Spirit may this day be under Your supervision

This should be your first thing every morning because without The Holy Spirit you can’t make it.
I got this advice from Pastor Vlad Savchuck and I’ve been applying it and by God’s grace my testimony is that I’m free from the thorn in the flesh I had which I shared about previously this year.
I was trying to achieve with my willpower what only The Holy Spirit could achieve. He’s taught me how to pray to be free, He’s giving me advice everyday to walk in His ways, He’s doing this in me and I am forever grateful to Him. He’s The love of my life and the “missing piece” I always needed. I pray to grow in my relationship with Him every single day and I know it’s just the beginning. Holy Spirit I love you so much and I thank You for all You’re doing for me.
All Christians are sealed with The Holy Spirit but not all of us know that we have to take advantage of His presence in us.
Search Scriptures about The Holy Spirit, read books on The Holy Spirit, ask Him to take control of you, seek Him and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart.
Say goodbye to willpower and trust entirely The Holy Spirit.
If you’ve not surrendered your life to Jesus Christ you can’t benefit from the wonderful things which The Holy Spirit wants to do in your life. You can say the following prayer to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and to enjoy the presence of The Holy Spirit in your life.

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that my willpower can’t save me. I acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Your Son and He died for my sins on The Cross. I believe that You rose Him from the dead on the third day. Lord Jesus Christ please save me, come into my life and make me new, be my Lord and Saviour, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may obey Your Commandments, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.

It’s Now Your Turn
