Hello everyone, I hope you’re all fine by God’s grace. Today’s post is about good works.
In order to talk about good works, I decided to make a quick research in The Bible to pick some verses about good works. It would be a nice thing to comment them a little bit. This is what I found .
1. Jesus Christ wants you to do good works
Not any type of good works dear, good works which shine. He wants them to shine because through your good works you’re going to make God’s Name known.
God wants to showcase your good works to the whole world.
Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds/works and glorify your Father in heaven.
2.He expects your good works
Not only does God expect your good deeds, He expects you to be rich in good deeds ie to multiply them.
1 Timothy 6:18 NIV
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds/works, and to be generous and willing to share.
3. God’s Word should equip you
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
You may feel unprepared or unqualified for certain good works, maybe because you’ve never done anything like that before. Nevertheless, this verse reveals to us today, that what qualifies you or equips you to serve God through your good works is God’s Word.
Do you want to serve God? Grow in His Word and let Him lead you.
4. He created you for those good works
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Did you know that, there are certain things which aren’t working in certain schools, companies, ministries, churches, because you aren’t there or because you aren’t doing what you were assigned to do?
Did you know that there are certain good works which God prepared beforehand to be done by specifically you? Yeah, you.
That’s why if you sit back there and keep saying “God please send someone else, I don’t feel like”, or “God do you really really really want me to do this, I ask because I don’t feel like doing it”. If you keep arm wrestling with God and delaying your calling, it won’t change your calling. Those good works will still be there waiting for you in order to be done. You are the one who should do it, stop delaying it, those are your good works, waiting for you.
This reminds me of my childhood. I was responsible for washing dishes and I hated that. So, I would make sure that I would enjoy my day as much as possible and I would push doing the dishes to just before going to bed. When I was very tired, I would say “I am too tired to wash them” and I would postpone it to the next day. I would do that for days, and what my mom always said was something like “it’s your work, it won’t leave, it’s waiting for you, nobody’s gonna do it for you, go up/come down it’s your work”.
In the same way, the good works God prepared for you are yours. Even if you try to escape like Jonas, God’s still going to bring you back, because it’s your calling. So, stop escaping and do those good works.
Finally, I just want to make it clear to everyone here that salvation isn’t achieved by good works but by grace. No matter how many good works you perform for The Lord or in The Name of The Lord, they aren’t your guarantee to be saved. If you haven’t believed in Him and that you haven’t accepted His free gift of salvation and invited Him to reign in your life, you can still do this now, and today by believing in your heart that He died for your sins and was raised from the dead for you, and by confessing Him as your Lord and Savior . This post wasn’t to talk about good works as a source of salvation, please don’t get me wrong. If you’ve accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you are already saved. The good works are a plus which you can count as a glory, and those good works God rewards them.
1 Corinthians 3:10-14 NIV
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
First comes salvation, then God puts a desire in your heart through His Holy Spirit to serve Him through good works. Your good works count.
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty, thank You for teaching me the importance of good works. Lord please reveal to me an area, a person, a place, where I can practice good works for the glory of Your Name . Good works which You prepared in advance for me, In Jesus Christ’s Name I pray. Amen
God bless you.
