Hello beloved ones of God, I hope you’ve had an awesome week by God’s grace.
I want to wish you all a warm welcome back to our Christmas 2017 series. Here’s our second post. As we agreed last week, in this Christmas series we’re gonna talk about Jesus Christ and learn to know Him better.
I remember a phrase from a famous pastor (Chris Oyakhilome), it went thus :
“God wants you well”
This brings us to the passage of today, which shows us that Jesus wants us well.
So, we’re looking at the story of a man who suffered from Leprosy.
Here we go:
Matthew 8:1-3 NLT
Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.” Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
You probably already know that in the Old Testament Leprosy was a plague (it still is), and everyone who suffered from Leprosy would be an outcast and wouldn’t live in community with others anymore.
Having Leprosy was equivalent to saying goodbye to your social life forever.
However, hearing about Jesus surely put hope in the heart of this man, who surely asked himself if the miracles Jesus performed could be true for him too.
Let’s imagine what he thought
“I heard about Jesus, I heard about His miracles, could it work for me too ? I have been rejected for so long, could He want to heal me too? Could He be willing to heal me too? ”
How often do we ask ourselves these questions:
- “Does God really want to save me ?”
- “Does Jesus really want to be there for me?”
- “After all what I have done is Jesus still willing to forgive me?”
- “Could Jesus be willing to help me with this?”
May be such thoughts pushed this man to say
Matthew 8:2 NLT
“if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
We usually come to God with “ifs” and “maybes”.
Isn’t it absurd that we really ask ourselves if God would be willing to help us?
Isn’t it absurd that we ask ourselves if Jesus would be willing to:
- Heal us
- Bless us
- Transform us
- Cleanse us
- Forgive us
- Answer us
Isn’t it crazy that at times I want to ask things from God, but I don’t put in faith when I ask because I doubt that He really wants to do it for me.
I know He loves all His creatures, but at times I doubt that He really loves me personally, and really wants to answer me personally. So when I turn to Him for help, I feel like “Lord Jesus, if you’re willing ”.
Like “may be You’re not willing to help me, but, if ever You are…please do”
That’s kind of wrong of mine to ask myself if The One who created me and loves me the most could be willing to help me.
Do you know that what Jesus answered to the man who suffered from Leprosy, is the same thing which He answers to me and is the same thing He answers to you today?
To all of us who ask ourselves if at all Jesus may be willing to help us, here is His answer :
Matthew 8:3 NLT
“I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
Of course Jesus wants to
- Heal you
- Empower you
- Bless you
- Forgive you
- Deliver you
- Instruct you
- Guide you
- Accompany you
- Transform you
You don’t need to ask yourself if He is willing to do it for you, of course He’s willing, of course He wants to do that for you.
But the big question is, will you have faith ?
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty King of Glory, thank You for making me know today that Jesus is really willing to be there for me no matter what I am going through and no matter how rejected I feel. I am relieved to know that You want me well, in Jesus Christ’s Name I pray. Amen
