Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace and I hope you’ve had a wonderful week.
As for me, my week was quite awesome, it ended quite well since I was able to host a LOVE WEEK Event in my country and volunteer with my awesome God-fearing friends.
Love Week is a volunteering week organised by Elevation Church in which people all around the world spread the love of Christ to people in their community. It was the tenth year anniversary but my third year hosting a love week event. As every year, I learned a lot about God, about people, and about myself.
Today, we’re going to talk about God’s purpose.
I think this is a theme which pops up a lot when organizing an event, but which reveals to us things about God at a deeper level. I will share with you a few things I learned through hosting a Love week event.
1. Obstacles Will Pop up
1 Peter 4:12-16 ESV
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
When you decide to do something for the glory of God obstacles will pop up, be sure about that.
Throughout The Bible, we see time and again, stories of people who chose to serve God, but who had obstacles on their way.
Joseph wanted to obey God, but he suffered sexual harassment and false accusations.
Moses was determined to lead God’s people out of Egypt and to lead them into the promised land, but things kept coming up, opposition from Pharaoh and from the very people he was trying to help.
Jesus Christ, The Word of God made flesh, despite all His good intentions was being attacked and His followers are still being attacked today.
When you decide to do something for God’s glory, you will face opposition, obstacles will pop up, not because what you’re doing is wrong, but because the devil only opposes what God declares.
So don’t be surprised when you’ve started this new project for God’s glory and you fall sick, or something happens around you to distract you urgently, or problems just seem to appear from everywhere. That’s just the devil trying to oppose you, in order to discourage you so that you’ll give up.
2. God’s Purpose Will Prevail
Genesis 50:19-21 MSG
Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid. Do I act for God? Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people. Easy now, you have nothing to fear; I’ll take care of you and your children.” He reassured them, speaking with them heart-to-heart.
The nicest part about facing opposition when you’re a Christian, is knowing that God’s purpose will prevail.
Joseph walked in purity, ended up ruling over Egypt under Pharaoh and he got married
The Israelites ultimately entered the promised land
Jesus Christ was resurrected after being crucified and He will reign for ever and ever.
The enemy may oppose you, but God’s purpose will prevail.
When you have that in mind, it will change how you pray:
- When your obstacles will be lack, instead of saying, “God we don’t have enough” you will pray by saying “Thank You Lord for You are enough, You will provide”
- When your obstacles will be opposition, instead of crying “God why me?” you’ll say “Thank You Lord for You fight for me”.
If you’re in the middle of something right now, and that you’re trying to serve God, but things just seem not to be working, let me tell you something:
Change the way you look at things and start declaring the end result:
- My studies are going to glorify God in The Name of Jesus Christ
- My marriage is going to be restored in The Name of Jesus Christ
- I’m going to write that book and impact lives for God in The Name of Jesus Christ
- My kids are going to serve God in The Name of Jesus Christ
- God is going to meet all my needs in The Name of Jesus Christ
The only thing which could stop you from experiencing God’s Will for something specific in your life is when you give up and leave.
Look at Peter vs Judas.
Peter’s obstacle was his fear, which made him deny The Lord. He could have kept walking in fear and said “God won’t want me back”, he could have given up on walking with Jesus Christ but he didn’t.
Luke 22:60-62 NIV
Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
Judas’ obstacle was his love of money. The devil used that to make him deliver Jesus to the Jews. Judas gave up and killed himself.
Matthew 27:3-6 NIV
When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
Judas could have repented and received forgiveness, but he didn’t, because he gave up.
When he gave up, he let the purpose of the enemy prevail, while God’s Will is that all should be saved. Jesus Christ died for the sins of Judas too, but Judas didn’t know or didn’t believe that. He was too fast condemning himself. Had he waited a little longer he would have seen Jesus resurrected and bowed down in tears to see His Lord had already forgiven him.
That’s why you shouldn’t give up too fast, you shouldn’t condemn yourself so fast and give up with your walk with God. It may take sometime before you realize that when you confessed your sin God really forgave you immediately, but if you give up too soon, you won’t figure this out.
Peter came back, even though he had messed up, he came back to Jesus Christ, and God used him in a tremendous way.
You have your own responsibility to make God’s purpose prevail in your life
- If you give up on your marriage, how do you expect it to get better?
- If you give up on praying for your healing, do you think the enemy will stop attacking your health? No, he’ll attack even more because he knows you will not fight back. If you give up on your healing how do you think you’ll get better?
I recall a specific example of giving up. When I was writing the GCE Ordinary level, there was a girl sitting right next to me. She came to write on the first day, and during the exams, she cried. She probably felt overwhelmed and unprepared. The next day, she didn’t show up, and for the rest of the exam, it looks like she didn’t show up at all. I assume she gave up because she didn’t feel prepared or because what came up on day 1 wasn’t what she had expected, so instead of fighting she gave up.
This is just an example, I’m not trying to judge her, but it’s a great example of how, at times, when we see obstacles and that we see what lies ahead, we feel so unprepared and unqualified that we give up.
How many times did I want to give up on organising a love week event? Things kept coming up and there was this voice in my mind which came up from way before I chose to host an event to 5 minutes before we started. This voice said “just give up, don’t do it, you see that x or y isn’t going to happen as you planned. Just cancel it”
By the way, how many times have I felt unprepared at the eve of an exam?
David could have seen Goliath and said “This is a giant, this is too much, I’m going home”, but if David hadn’t fought the giant, he wouldn’t have become so famous, and that fame wasn’t even for him, it was God displaying His glory through the future king, because David would rule officially over all Israel some years later.
If you don’t go write your exams, how do you expect to succeed? The grades may not be exactly what you wanted but the first important thing is to put in your best and to succeed.
If you don’t fight for your marriage, you won’t enjoy the peace of restoration, and people wouldn’t have been blessed
If I hadn’t pushed through and organized, many kids wouldn’t have been blessed by us studying The Bible with them and planting seeds of God’s Word in them.
God used David to deliver the Israelites.
Your obedience will bless someone.
You deciding to fight for your marriage in Christ Jesus, will bless other couples who will fight for their marriages too.
You choosing to preach The Gospel even when people mock you and even when you don’t feel like preaching will bless someone who was suicidal, or someone who didn’t even know about Jesus Christ.
If you want God’s purpose to prevail in your life, then you have to decide “I won’t give up, no matter the obstacles, and God’s purpose will prevail in my life in Jesus Christ’s Name”
Conclusion
When you choose to live your life to glorify God, the devil will oppose you, but if you decide to fight back with faith and refuse to give up, God’s purpose will always prevail
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty King of Glory, forgive me for when I gave up on seeing Your Word come to pass in my life. Help me keep believing that Your purpose will prevail, and may Your Holy Spirit fill me with courage such that I won’t give up, and such that I’ll be a blessing to others, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
