Hello fearfully and wonderfully made creature of God, I hope you’ve had a wonderful day in The Lord.
I don’t know about your life but I know that in mine there are days which are more difficult to handle than others, and days which are more peaceful than others.
When I have some time to chill out at the end of the day, I have so many thoughts which cross my mind, and in my journey against negative thoughts, today I came across a wonderful book written by Joyce Meyer titled “The Mind Connection”. It’s a great book which shows us how our thoughts influence our mood, and how to choose the thoughts which will build us up and avoid the thoughts which will break us down.
Reading a book and applying what’s in it are two different things. That’s probably why a few minutes ago when negative thoughts of unachieved dreams popped into my mind I decided not to focus on myself (which as Joyce Meyer says is a form of idolatry) but to focus on God.
This is what brings us to today’s song: “Loyal” by Lauren Daigle.

It’s so wonderful to pause in life, not to think about our numerous failures but to think about how God’s love never fails.
Most if not all of our negative thoughts are focused on ourselves “me, me, me, me, me”, “I, I, I, I”

  • I have failed”
  • I am a failure”
  • “God will never love me

Also, even if these thoughts include others it all revolves around us

  • “I can’t believe how they they’ve treated me
  • “What do people think of me ?”
  • “ I’ll never forget what they did to me”
  • “No one will ever love me

We get so obsessed with ourselves, that we push God out of the equation, or at least of our minds.
Philippians 4:8 NLT

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

If we could just switch off the “me” and “I” buttons to focus on God, each of those negative thoughts would fade away one after the other.
Everything I am not is met in Christ. He is The Great I Am .
So,

  • I’m not perfect but God is.
  • I make mistakes, but God never does
  • On my own I am nothing, but with Him I am everything

Indeed, instead of focusing on everytime we’ve messed up, we should focus on everytime God remained loyal though we messed up.

  • He’s never left us alone
  • He’s never refused to forgive us our sins
  • He’s never rejected us
  • He’s never failed us (though we failed Him so many times)

2 Timothy 2:13 NLT

If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is.

We aren’t perfect, but God is. So, today the first step to being healed from chaotic negative mindsets is to stop the obsession about ourselves and to start obsessing about God.
Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT

Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps His covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey His commands.

Next time the devil reminds you all that you are not, remind him all that God is.

Exercise

  1. Make a decision today to make a difference in how you think, decide to start a journey to learn how to choose your thoughts
  2. Thank God because He is loyal and has never failed you
  3. Next time you have negative thoughts coming up in your mind, choose to focus on God not on yourself.
  4. Download the song Loyal by Lauren Daigle if it helps and listen to it to help yourself focus on God’s loyalty instead of your failures

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty, I confess that I spend too much of my time focusing on myself instead of looking at You. Lord, help me annul the devil’s temptations in my mind to think negatively by fighting those negative thoughts with the truth about who You are. Thank You for being loyal despite the fact that I have failed you so often, help me Lord, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.

It’s Now Your Turn
