Jeremiah 31:3-4a MSG
...God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love! And so now I’ll start over with you and build you up again...
Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re fine by His grace.
I don’t know if you can relate but I think it’s easier to believe that God is good, than it is to believe that He will be good towards us specifically.
It’s easier for me to believe that God is love, than to integrate in my mind that He loves me too. I don’t think I’m the only Christian having this difficulty, and in my case, I always find it useful to be reminded that God loves me as I listen to songs like “Live Like You’re Loved” by Hawk Nelson.

Life isn’t always easy, there are nice times and there are harsh times. If you define your joy based on how life goes you’ll never ever be happy.
Also, there are periods in life where you clearly succeed at what you’re doing, and there are others during which you completely mess up. If you define your joy and God’s ability to love you based on your performance, you’ll never be happy and you’ll never feel loved by God.
God’s love is not based on performance, it’s based on who He is. He doesn’t love us for what we’ve done or not, He loves us because that’s who He is.
And when He looks at us, He doesn’t see our dysfunctions, He doesn’t see our flaws, He sees the work of Jesus on The Cross for you. And as you know, Jesus is perfect, Holy, worthy, and wonderful, and what He did was more than enough to make God accept you in His Kingdom.
That’s why it is absolutely not far fetched to say that God loves you just the way you are.
Yes God loves you as you are. Not to say that He’ll not change you, He will, but even while you’re not yet the best version of yourself, He still loves you.
Though you’re messy, though you’re dysfunctional, though you’re still learning to get better, God loves you, and you have to believe that His love is going to change you little by little.
1 Corinthians 13:4‭-‬7 ESV

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

God is love, and as such we can clearly conclude from these verses that:

  1. God is patient and kind towards you
  2. God will never force you to serve Him, you get to choose
  3. God is not resentful once you confess your sins
  4. God is slow to anger
  5. God doesn’t rejoice in you sinning/doing wrong
  6. God loves it when you act according to The Truth of His Word
  7. God bears you, even if you think you’re unbearable
  8. God still believes that you can change and become someone better…that you can be delivered from that sin once and for all, that you can decide to serve Him sincerely, that you can get better at organising your time every morning to read His Word etc.
  9. God still hopes that you will repent and come back to Him though you strayed far away
  10. God still loves you, His love endures forever no matter what you did or didn’t do

Is God’s love not wonderful?
While waiting that He finishes to change you, you can enjoy the journey. Learn to read His Word, learn to put it in practice, ask Him to help you always, and do this with joy.
Don’t be so focused on the destination that you fail to enjoy the journey. Grow your intimacy with God no matter the season you’re going through, and always turn to Him for help, discipline and deliverance.
Just because you haven’t reached your goal as a Christian yet, doesn’t mean you have to be sad all your life till you reach your goals.
The fact that you have sinned in your past and you’re afraid of sinning in the future, doesn’t have to make you punish yourself and live a life where you feel miserable.
If you’ve confessed it to God and received His forgiveness and reconciliation, you’re free to move on and enjoy your life in The Lord, knowing that He loves you and He’ll help you to become a better Christian.
And even if you fell, God can lift you up, have hope and faith in His love which is able to change you.
Jeremiah 31:3-4a MSG

…God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love! And so now I’ll start over with you and build you up again…

Exercise

  1. Thank God today for His unconditional love towards you
  2. Commit to God an area of your life where you feel stuck. Ask Him to help you enjoy the journey and notice your progress in Him.

Prayer

Father Lord God King of Glory, thank You so much for dealing with me, not according to my dysfunction but according to Your love for me and what Christ Jesus did for me on The Cross. Help me notice my progress in You, Help me enjoy the journey, Help me to believe sincerely that You love me unconditionally, and help me to live accordingly, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.

It’s Now Your Turn
