Have you ever gotten angry? Have you ever felt like you weren’t understood, appreciated as you ought to be,not valued? How does it feel like to think people were unfair with you? Have you ever thought of taking revenge? Have you ever tried just to express yourself as you are but been carried away by emotions?
Honestly, i can say yes to each of the questions above. We are human beings, we’ve got hearts , it’s normal that we’ve got feelings too, God created us that way.
Talking about feelings, let’s define anger . According to Random House Kernerman Webster’s College Dictionary, © 2010, anger is “a strong feeling of displeasure and belligerence aroused by a real or supposed wrong”.
I love this definition, because at times we get mad because people really hurt us, but some other times we get mad because we “assume”/think people “intentionally” hurt us. Do you think this is way too complicated ? “I was hurt so i should get angry” ? Let’s take a look at what Scripture says

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.(Matthew 5:22-24) ESV
Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil.(Ephesians 4: 25-27) English Standard Version ESV

and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors…..For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you (Matthew 6:12,14) ESV

I don’t know about you but as for me i feel challenged by these verses. This is what i retain from these

  1. It can happen that i get angry , yeah it can happen
  2. But it shouldn’t become for me an occasion for sin(hating, lying, hypocrisy, dissimulation, bitterness, insults)
  3. I should forgive because God has forgiven me
  4. I ought  to fix things and sort them out in all brotherly love as soon as possible before the sun sets in order to escape from nurturing negative feelings against my neighbor
  5. Reconciliation with my brethren is so important to God

I won’t say i never get angry, but my prayer is to learn to go beyond the anger and to forgive, love and reconcile as soon as possible. May God lead us in such good deeds.
God Almighty, i usually get angry , help me not sin through that, help me love my brethren and reconcile with them, help me forgive even when it seems unfair, fill me with Your love, In Jesus Christ’S Name, I pray. Amen
GOD bless you all, be courageous as you started lent.
