Hi everyone, I hope you are all fine by God’s grace.
This is our last post on the series “Encouragement”. If you read the first post on this theme I think you can easily guess that today we are going to talk about self encouragement.
You can find a link to the previous post here.
I suppose I am not the only one who gets hurt by X or Y things which happen in my life. I guess I am not the only one who at times feels so broken, hurt and sad that I feel unable to stand up by myself and feel happy again. I guess I am not the only one who usually waits for a special friend, a special loved one, a special call, a special blog post from somebody else in order to be encouraged and to get back on track, to move on.
Today, I want us to look at someone who really needed encouragement, but who didn’t wait for someone else to bring it to him, he encouraged himself, he did it all by himself because he needed it.
Let’s take a look at Psalm 42.
Psalm 42:3, 5-6, 8, 11 KJV
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? [5] Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. [6] O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. [8] Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. [11] Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
When we read this Psalm, we clearly notice that the psalmist is really discouraged, sad, hurt and broken. He is going through hard times(as we all do from time to time) and he recalls some periods of his life which seemed more jovial than what he was going through at that moment .
I really find the author of this Psalm very brave, because he didn’t wait for someone to pop up and encourage him. He decided to encourage his soul, his inner self (the part deep down him which felt all that pain). He ordered his soul to hope in The Lord and he decided to continue praising God.
He knows that things are gonna be well and that he’s gonna have numerous reasons again to praise God. He boosts himself up and pushes his soul to hope and to believe that God’s gonna make a way. That’s what we should all do in times of trouble. We aren’t obliged to wait for someone to jump into our lives to encourage us, we can speak that word of encouragement ourselves to our soul, and be encouraged.
This makes me think of Psalm 103 written by King David.
Psalm 103:1-5 KJV
Bless the Lord , O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. [2] Bless the Lord , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: [3] Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; [4] Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; [5] Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
David hereby commands his soul to bless God, and to remember all the good things God did for him.
I think you’ve figured it out. It’s always a great encouragement to remember all the wonderful things God has done for us in the past, to encourage ourselves with that, because the same God who delivered us yesterday shall deliver us today.
This year, be your most devoted cheerleader 🎉🎊🎊. Encourage your own self as you sing praises to The Lord and recall His goodness and faithfulness towards you.
Prayer
Father Almighty, I know I usually doubt and I usually let myself carried away by pain, hurt, sadness, tears, desperation. Please Lord help me change that and help me encourage myself in The Lord every single day. Thank You Lord in Jesus Christ’s Name I have prayed.
Amen.
