Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace.

This lent we are talking about depression. Today we’re going to talk about depression in three dimensions.

As you probably already know, you are more than what people see.

Human beings are made of body, soul and spirit.

Your body, is the part which everyone sees, the Physical part, but your soul and your spirit can’t humanly be seen.

Your soul is the part of you which englobes your character, your mindset, your thoughts, your conscious mind and your subconscious mind, your emotions.

Your spirit is the part of you which receives The Holy Spirit when you give your life to Christ Jesus. Your spirit is the “innermost” part of you. The part of you from which you speak in tongues when you pray.

The most powerful dimension is that of the spirit, afterwards the soul, and the least powerful is the body.

Why do I want us to talk about this today?

It’s because depression affects both your soul and your body, and if your spirit is not in good health, you’ll have difficulties with fighting depression.

So here are the 3 dimensions involved in Depression.

1. Depression and the body

When we started with this series on depression, we defined Depression and gave some signs and symptoms. We talked about this in the post What’s wrong with me? You can read it here.

Depression can affect your body in several ways: reducing your energy levels, making you feel extremely tired, disrupting your sleep cycle, appetite loss etc.

When you’re depressed, your immune system too is disturbed, as such, you are exposed to other diseases. You may fall sick continuously without even understanding why.

The devil attacks your body with depression, and once your body’s immune system is weakened, he attacks even further with different diseases to make you weaker and weaker.

Antidepressants focus just on the body. They don’t heal depression at its source. They just make your body feel better.

Another physical means to fight depression is practicing physical activity. This will make your body secrete endorphins which will make you feel better in your body. They don’t solve the root cause of depression but they ameliorate your physical state.

Eating food rich in vitamins and minerals may also boost your immune system and make you feel better. But this only won’t “solve” your depression.

2. Depression and the soul

Your soul as said previously is the centre of your thoughts, your mind and your emotions.

This is also an area that the devil loves attacking. He will put depressive thoughts in your mind (failure, suicide, fear, despair, self-hatred etc) and the more you will dwell on those thoughts the weaker you will feel.

When your soul is in good health, when your mind is in good health, you resist better. When your soul is in good health, even when your physical body is weak, you resist diseases more. However, when your soul is weak, you do not resist as you would.

Little by little you feel weakened more and more.

Proverbs 24:10

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

The fact that your thoughts aren’t in order and that the devil invades your soul with those thoughts weakens not only your soul, but also your body.

Demons can attack and invade the soul. They can possess someone (from the inside) or they can attack from the outside (with poisonous thoughts).

When you change your thoughts, when you start thinking positively and motivationally, you notice that your state changes, you start feeling better.

Psychologist and psychiatrists work on your soul, by making you work on your thoughts and emotions. That’s why you may feel relief when working with them for a certain time.

Renewing your mind, can improve the health of your soul, and free you from depression. If you learn to stop yielding your mind to the thoughts the devil puts in them, and that you instead focus your thoughts on God’s Word, you can be set free.

Romans 12:2 NIV

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Philippians 4:8 NIV

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

3. Depression and your spirit

If you are a Christian, if you have accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have The Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit quickens your body, He dwells in your spirit, but He also influences your soul and body.

Romans 8:11 NIV

And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.

He influences your soul for example when you use God’s Word to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, by speaking the word to yourself and encouraging yourself.

Also, because you have The Holy Spirit, you have authority and power in Christ Jesus. You can decide to use that authority and to cast away the spirit of Depression.

You open your mouth and you tell that spirit to leave now in The Name of Jesus Christ.

Also, you open your mouth and call on The Spirit of The Lord to quicken you, to fill you, to fill your soul, to fill your body and to heal you completely.

When you solve the problem of Depression spiritually, all the rest follows. Your soul is healed and restored, and your body too is healed.

However, if you’re in “poor health” spiritually, your soul and your body will easily be attacked by the devil.

First step to having good spiritual health is surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. Speak to Him right know, acknowledge that you’re a sinner, that He died on The Cross to save you from your sins, and that God resurrected Him from the dead. Invite Him to be your Lord and Savior right now.

By the way, it has been proven through scientific study that speaking in tongues for 30 minutes per day boosts the body’s immune system by 35-40%. Praying in your spirit doesn’t edify your soul because you don’t understand what you’re saying, but it boosts your body’s immune system.

Exercise

Decide to fight depression in 3 dimensions. Starting with the most powerful

1. Command the spirit of depression to leave you now in The Name of Jesus Christ.

Release the life of The Holy Spirit into your soul and your body in The Name of Jesus Christ.

Pray in tongues for 30 minutes per day and write down in your exercise book every change you notice in your physical body.

2. Renew your mind with God’s Word. Don’t accept depressive thoughts. Replace them with God’s Word. Keep telling to yourself “God loves me” “God is for me, not against me” “God has forgiven me” “By His stripes I am healed” etc

3. Start with physical activity 15 minutes everyday, and eat fruits rich in vitamins and minerals everyday.

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty, help me take responsibility for myself and fight for my health at every different level, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
