Hi everyone, I hope you are all fine by God’s grace. Today’s post is about laziness.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, laziness is ” the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy; idleness”. I believe it’s not easy to talk about laziness without appearing judgmental. I think we almost all have issues with sticking to our timetables and managing our time as we initially planned to. We all have moments where we feel too tired and drained to work on anything. There are times where we just feel like chilling, and not like working. There are days where we just don’t want to do anything but lie down and rest. That’s why talking about laziness could really offend someone who feels like he/she isn’t being lazy but just resting. I just wanted to make it clear that, me too I struggle with time management, and this post isn’t about judging anyone. Let’s see it as an encouragement.
Here we go. There are numerous Bible verses about laziness, but we’ll just discuss about some.
Proverbs 26:13 NIV
A sluggard says, “There’s a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!”
Ecclesiastes 11:4 NIV
Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap
I believe that we don’t always act lazy because we don’t want to work at all. At times it’s because we’re afraid or discouraged. We look left and right and can only see the obstacles and not the opportunities. As such we end up thinking that there’s no point in putting any effort if there are so many obstacles which increase the odds of us failing even if we try.
The “roaring lion in the streets”, or the “wind” or “clouds” for us which we observe instead of working may be; the political or economic status of our country, peoples’ negative comments, the economic crisis, peoples’ opinion, climatic changes, sibling rivalry, hatred from peers, statistics, our health status etc. Nevertheless, The Bible tells us that if we keep observing all those things instead of working, we’ll not be productive at all. We won’t sow anything, hence we won’t reap anything.
Look at it this way; if you don’t do anything because you think that if you do something it’s gonna fail and it won’t produce any fruits, then you won’t be producing any fruits either. So, by not doing anything you are actually ensuring that the exact thing you didn’t want to see happening (being unproductive) happens, i.e you aren’t helping yourself at all.
Starting something is never easy, doing the right thing is never obvious. However, you have to do it because the danger behind not doing it is that you won’t get positive results.
- If you don’t read your Bible there’re so many things you won’t learn about God.
- If you don’t worship God you won’t enjoy what comes with praise.
- If you don’t eat you won’t get enough energy.
- If you don’t clean your room it’ll get messy (I know what I am talking about).
- If you don’t work you won’t be able to enjoy the results.
- If you don’t sow you won’t reap.
That’s how things are.
Perhaps, you’re still worried about the fact that there’s a lion out there which may attack you even if you try to work hard and who may devour you on the way.
Beloved of God, you shouldn’t worry about the presence of the lion. Why?
” Because the lion may be roaring but it’s got no teeth“
_Pastor Steven Furtick
That lion you fear is just a threat, the lion can’t harm you because God protects you. So, go ahead, sow and reap. Don’t be afraid nor discouraged any more, and enjoy yourself as you work.
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty, thank You for making me realize today that if I spend all my life hesitating because of eventual obstacles , I may never become productive. Please Lord, grant me courage to put my fears aside, to not listen to the negative voices in my mind and all around me, and to just do what I have to do, and trust you with my seeds, that they may grow and bear fruits to the glory of Your Name Father. In Jesus Christ’s Name I pray.Amen.
Thanks for reading.
God bless you.
