Hi everyone, I hope you’re all fine by God’s grace. Today’s post is about how to fight unforgiveness. It’s in response to yesterday’s post which was “ 5 Signs you haven’t forgiven someone“.
Those signs were outlined as follows :
- When you think about the person, you’re angry.
- When you think about the person you’re sad.
- Your mind is meditating on random ways to hurt them or revenge.
- You can’t spend time with them without hurting them.
- You can’t stand hearing about them (even when you’re done hurting them).
The solutions to these signs of unforgiveness are easier said than done, but they’re highly effective if you let God lead you with an open heart. Here you go:
Matthew 5:44 KJV
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
1. Everytime you think about the person, pray for him/her.
2. Everytime you’re sad thinking about the person, praise God for having them in your life.
3. Everytime your thoughts wander negatively about them, ask God to bless them and grant them their hearts’ desires in The Lord.
Philippians 4:8 KJV
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
4. Don’t spend time with them so long as your heart is angry or bitter, in order to avoid hurting them. First take time aside to change your mindset towards them. Remember that Cain was unprepared to spend time with Abel since he was still angry with him, the only thing he could do at that moment was to hurt him.
Genesis 4:8 NIV
Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
Proverbs 30:32-33 NIV
“…. or if you plan evil, clap your hand over your mouth! For as churning cream produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.”
5. When you hear about them smile and thank God for something (anything) beautiful you like about them.
I guess you’ve noticed that none of these seems easy, but they demand discipline in controlling our thoughts. However, it’s an exercise to do all the time, till the day you finally notice that when you think about them or when you look at them, you feel nothing but joy and love.
I wish you the best in your walk of forgiveness, it’s an everyday effort. May God Almighty help you.
Prayer
Eternal Lord King of Glory, thank You for teaching me about how to fight unforgiveness. Help me apply these 5 tips actively in my everyday life, and experience the joy, love and miracle of forgiveness in Jesus Christ’s Name.A men.
