Hello beloved child of God, I hope you’re ready to start a wonderful week under the protection of God Almighty. I also hope that the week which is just from ending was epic. Mine was so special thanks to God, and I just thought it would be so cool to share with you one of the awesome things that God taught me lately.
Before we start I would like to lay the foundation for this blog post.
- Are you feeling drained these days?
- Do you have the impression that as time passes by your life is getting harder?
- Have you made a significant mistake which led you on the wrong path and which makes you question if your life will ever be the same again?
- Have you lost so much on the way due to dumb decisions so much so that you feel like your life is over?
- Have you stopped enjoying your life?
- Are you contemplating suicide?
- Do you think you’ve chosen the wrong career path?
- Are you at a carrefour in your life trying to take the best decision for your future and trying to figure out how you can make the right choice which you won’t regret later?
- Are you depressive?
- Have you made the same wrong decision over and over again and you’re asking yourself how you’ll do to never do that again?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then this blog post is for you.
We’re going to look today at a few words which describe who The Holy Spirit is, and by reading you’ll figure out that The Holy Spirit is exactly the answer to all your needs.
Before going any further, I would just like to say that The Holy Spirit of God is the Third Person of The Trinity, He is a person, not a thing. Kindly keep this in mind.
JOHN 14:16-17 AMP
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever– the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.
1. The Holy Spirit is your Helper
PSALM 46:1 AMP
God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.
When I was still in middle school I hated homeworks because I was expected to do them all by myself and to find a solution for them. Thank God I had an awesome tutor who encouraged me in this task.
Life is full of assignments. Just like in a classroom, we are told what to do, we receive instructions as we read The Bible and then we are expected to apply it in our lives. The big thing is, God doesn’t expect us to do it all alone, He sent His Holy Spirit to be with us in this journey.
- Are just from having a new job and still trying to figure out how to balance it with your social life? Ask help from The Helper.
- Do you have difficulties understanding your lectures, ask The Helper
- Is it hard for you to obey your parents? Ask for help from The Helper
- Are you struggling with depression or with an addiction? Ask for help from The Helper.
- Were you given a huge task at church? Ask The Helper to help you
You weren’t meant to do this all alone.
2. The Holy Spirit is your Comforter
2 CORINTHIANS 1:3-4 AMP
Blessed [gratefully praised and adored] be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
The worse thing which can happen to you when you’re preparing for an exam is a heart break. True or False?
Not everyone may agee with me on this one but when you have a fight with someone you love (best friend, sister, brother, fiance, spouse, parent etc.) just before an exam you feel so down that it is difficult to focus.
In fact it hurts not only when you have to prepare for exams but any time. When something like that happens to you it can take the joy off you momentarily. When you go through a loss or a heart break you need support, you need someone to comfort you and to cheer on you, The Holy Spirit is this person.
- Did he/she dump you at the altar? Ask The Holy Spirit to comfort you
- Is your marriage falling apart? Ask The Holy Spirit to comfort you
- Are your kids driving you crazy? Ask The Holy Spirit to comfort you
- Have you lost a loved one? Ask The Holy Spirit to comfort you.
- Is your business just from closing due to financial issues? Ask The Holy Spirit to comfort you.
3. The Holy Spirit is your Advocate
1 JOHN 2:1-2 AMP
My little children (believers, dear ones), I am writing you these things so that you will not sin and violate God’s law. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate [who will intercede for us] with the Father: Jesus Christ the righteous [the upright, the just One, who conforms to the Father’s will in every way–purpose, thought, and action]. And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature–our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world.
When you sin, The Holy Spirit convicts you. He makes you aware of your sin so that you can confess it to God and repent. The devil will try to tell you that you are condemned, that it was your last chance, that you are worthless, that you are abusing God’s grace, but The Holy Spirit Will stand for you, He will remind you that you are forgiven thanks to The Lamb of God whose blood was poured out for your sins.
When you feel tormented by guilt, shame and condemnation due to something horrible which you did and which you have already confessed to God and for which you have already repented, remember that Jesus Christ is before God’s Throne of grace and that even though the devil accuses you, Jesus is your Advocate, He has paid with His blood and now you are forgiven, God has forgiven you.
4. The Holy Spirit is your Intercessor
ROMANS 8:26-27 AMP
In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words. And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will.
Simply said, an intercessor is someone who prays for you. You have probably already interceded for someone, for example praying for a sick friend to be healed, praying for a family member to be saved etc.
The Holy Spirit is The One who pushed you to intercede for others, He used you to pray for them, and He also uses you to pray for yourself. At times you feel so overwhelmed by life that you don’t know how to pray for yourself, but The Holy Spirit intercedes for you through you. That’s why you should never lose hope because The Creator of The Universe is praying for you.
5. The Holy Spirit is your Counselor
ISAIAH 30:21 AMP
Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
I am the type of person who has a lot of difficulties with decision making, probably because I think that no matter what I choose I am going to regret later. At times I find myself saying “God I don’t know what to do, I can’t decide, I am so confused”.
God has been convicting me these days on the fact that I shouldn’t speak and think like this. The Holy Spirit who lives in every Christian lives in me. He is here to counsel me. I just need to ask and He will direct my steps.
I know that as you’re reading this you are probably asking yourself ”How can I know that this is really The Holy Spirit speaking to me?’‘. Normally people would tell you that God’s voice will never contradict God’s Word and this is true, but what do you do when it comes to topics which aren’t mentioned in The Bible? For example, which colour of lipstick you should wear today, or whether you should propose to her this month or next month?
The more you know someone, the more you are acquainted to their voice. In the same way, the more you’ll learn to listen to The wonderful Peaceful Still Small Voice of The Holy Spirit, the more you’ll be able to recognize Him. This will take time, but it will start by you listening when He speaks and asking Him to speak to you.
I once read somewhere that God is always speaking to us, but that we’re the ones who often don’t tune in to listen. A wise Pastor once said that some of us think that prayer is only about us speaking to God and giving Him a list of what we expect from Him, but that if we would just shut up and listen, we would be able to hear Him tell us what He expects from us.
6. The Holy Spirit is your Strengthener
2 CORINTHIANS 12:10 AMP
So I am well pleased with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, and with difficulties, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am strong [truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength].
Have you ever gone through a really really difficult season in your life which you thought you would never get out from? I’m talking about the type of storm which makes you just wish that you would never have had to go through something so horrible, heart breaking, depressing and hurting. But you kept praying, you kept reading your Bible, you kept showing up at church, in your home, in your family, at school, at your job, and now that it’s over you think about it and smile asking yourself ”How did I make it here?”
God’s Holy Spirit was The One who gave you strength to go through that season, He did it before and He will do it again. When life gets stressful, don’t panic, ask for strength from your Strengthener The Holy Ghost.
7. The Holy Ghost is your Standby
I love the analogy of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome between The Holy Spirit and standby batteries.
If you’re anything like me, then you like to use your phone till it’s 5 percent battery left. I love that, but what I love even more is the fact that if there’s a blackout just when I’m about to charge my phone, I have a standby battery (power bank) which I can use to charge my phone.
At times we go through life with a 5% battery level. We feel drained emotionally, physically, mentally, etc. but we just keep on with our daily activities. With no hope, no joy, no peace, no rest, we just go about life like zombies.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Why not just rush to The Holy Spirit every morning and all through the day asking Him to be our standby, to be our energy, to be our source of joy, peace, hope, rest etc.?
What’s next?
Though it is cute to know that The Holy Spirit is the ultimate solution to your problems, and the ultimate answer to your questions, you may ask yourself ”How do I take advantage of all this and make it a reality in my life?” because it’s good to know but it’s even better to apply it.
The Holy Spirit is present in every believer, if you’ve already accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, if you’ve already surrendered your life to Him, then your next step is to start seeking for The Holy Spirit, you have to look for The Holy Spirit and ask Him to be with you, to operate in you.
This is just the beginning of a quest, seek Him with all your heart, devour every Bible verse and every Christian book which talks about The Holy Spirit, invite Him, pursue Him and you will eventually find Him and grow in Him.
