Hosea 4:6a NIVMy people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
Hello precious child of God. I hope you’re growing deeper in The Lord as the days go by.
I don’t know where you are in your journey with God, but chances are that you’ve probably already heard the following phrase:
Hosea 4:6a NIV

My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

This verse is so true. I like the fact that here God outlines the fact that it’s not because He’s not there that we’re destroyed, but because we don’t know what we should know.
How often do Christians struggle with issues in their lives (spiritual warfare, sin, depression, addiction, fear of the devil etc.) not because God isn’t there for them, but because they don’t know how powerful the n
Name of Jesus is.
That’s probably why I love the song we’re studying today, “Not Today”, by Hillsong United

The big message I get behind this song is, you may have lived in fear, and subject to the circumstances of life for some time or for all your life, but the day you realize that the Name of Jesus is more powerful than the devil, than his demons, than the enemy’s schemes against you, than fear, condemnation, hurt etc., you start living differently.
The moment you realize that Jesus’ Name is above all that, you begin to call upon The Name of The Lord, and to walk boldly in Jesus’ Name, because you know that there’s power in His Name.
Romans 10:13 KJV

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

From that moment, you know that the gates of hell can’t prevail against you because you are walking in The Name of Jesus.
John 16:33 KJV

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Philippians 2:9‭-‬11 NIV

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

This knowledge of the power which resides in The Name of Jesus will push you to stand strong despite the attacks of the enemy, despite his attempts to make you live in fear, you’ll be able to stand up in The Lord and tell the devil “Not today, not now, not ever again, in The Name of Jesus
The devil has tormented you long enough for him to continue this way, it has to stop.
This reminds me of what a pastor I really admire said recently, Pastor John Gray. I’ll try to phrase it as I remember that he said it.
Essentially, he said that when you know your identity as a Christian, and the power which resides in the Name of Jesus, you won’t beg the devil anymore
please devil could you leave my marriage/family/finances?..etc.”.
When you know how powerful the Name of Jesus is, you tell the devil
I bind you in the Name of Jesus Christ, get out of my marriage/family/finances etc.”
That’s virtually the message of this song, you know that you can withstand the attacks of the enemy not by your strength or might but by that of Jesus because when you call upon His Name, He stands for you.
Like Pastor Steven Furtick recently said
“you’re running away from the devil, but when you call the Name of Jesus, the devil’s running away from you
There’s power in His Name.

Exercise

  1. Think of one area of your life where you gave room to the enemy: sin, fear, shame, guilt, condemnation
  2. Ask for God’s Help in The Name of Jesus
  3. Look for Bible verses regarding that specific area
  4. Claim those Bible verses upon your life in The Name of Jesus Christ

Prayer

Father Lord God Eternal King of Glory, thank You so much for letting me realize today that I don’t have to live in fear of the enemy, fear of the future or fear of anything, because I can always call upon The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. I choose to fight all my battles by relying not on my strength but on the Name of Jesus, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
