As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:13‭-‬14 NIV

Hello blessed child of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace and you’ve had an awesome week. As for me I’m fine thanks to Him.
Today is Father’s Day. I want to wish happy Father’s Day to every dad and future dad reading this post, and I want to wish a happy Father’s Day especially to Our Father in Heaven; God.
Romans 8:15 NIV

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “ Abba, Father.”

Today, if you have to remember anything from my blogpost, I want you to remember that God is your Good Father.
The moment you received Jesus Christ in your life as your Personal Lord and Saviour you became God’s child. He is your Father.
What does a Father do for His kids?

  • He loves them
  • He provides for them
  • He cares for them
  • He instructs them
  • He protect them
  • He comforts them
  • He guides them

The list can be continued…..
This is to let you know that God is on your side, He stands for you and He loves you.
I know this may be difficult to accept because some of us picture God with respect to how our dads dealt with us. No one is born as a parent, no one knows exactly what to do once you’re a parent, we all learn along the way.
Perhaps your dad wasn’t present, maybe he was abusive, or may be he tried his best but wasn’t able to satisfy your emotional needs. Or maybe you lost your dad early and you don’t really know what it looks like to have a dad. All you need to know is that no body is perfect and only God can satisfy all your needs, He is your Father.
Some of us feel like we don’t deserve God’s love as a Father but let’s look at the parable of the Prodigal son. This will probably help you realize the length, depth and breadth of God’s Fatherly love for you.

1. God is Generous Towards us Even Though We Don’t Deserve it

Luke 15:11‭-‬13 NIV

Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

If you’re a father and your child comes to ask for his share of inheritance while you’re still living, you’ll be disappointed with your son and you’ll think your son is money-minded. Also, you’ll probably not give anything to him.
However, though we ask crazy stuff to God, He still loves us and generously grants things to us according to our needs. When we pray, He hears us and He answers us.

2. God Still Loves Us Though We Messed Up

Luke 15:14‭-‬20 NIV

After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

Did you pay attention to what the prodigal son’s father did when he came back home? He ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
You don’t do this to someone you don’t love. You react this way only with someone whom you really really love. Despite the offense, you run to the person and respond with love.
That’s what God does, despite the fact that we messed up, when we turn back to Him, He doesn’t throw us away, He welcomes us with love.

3. God Still Forgives Even When We Mess Up Greatly

Luke 15:20‭-‬24 NIV

So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

In this story, the father of the prodigal son represents God.
That’s how God treats us, He was willing and ready to forgive us even before we came to ask for His forgiveness.
At times we’re so afraid to go to God to ask for forgiveness because we ask ourselves if He will accept to forgive us. But we have to keep in mind that:

  • God already knows that we want to repent
  • God already knows what we did
  • God knew what we would do before we did it but He still chose us
  • God wants to forgive us no matter the case, so long as we are willing to confess our sins to Him

4. God Restores Us Willfully and Joyfully

Luke 15:22‭-‬24 NIV

“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

We usually say “I have forgiven but I have not forgotten”. I totally agree with the fact that when you forgive someone you have to be wise enough to create the best environment for yourself so that the person won’t hurt you in the same manner as they did last time and so that they won’t hurt you further.
Nevertheless, it looks like God “doesn’t take reasonable distance from us to prevent Himself from being hurt”, instead, He welcomes us and restores us fully as His children.
He still calls us His children, and He cleanses us and gives us the best robe. Though we don’t deserve the fattened calf, He kills it for us and He celebrates for us.
This should tell you how much God loves you, and how much no one can deserve His love. He is your Father.
That’s how it is when you’re a dad. No matter how much your children misbehave, you still love them. When they turn to you for mercy, you care for them, and you do not reject them. How much more God.
Isaiah 49:15 NIV

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!

Today is Father’s Day, and it’s a wonderful day to say thank you to God for His unconditional love and His mercy and His forgiveness towards you.

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty, thank You so much for Your unconditional love towards me. Thank You for Your endless generosity towards me. Thank You for restoring me and forgiving me when I turn to You. Thank You for being The Best Father Ever. I love You so much. Thank You Lord in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.

It’s Now Your Turn
