Hello blessed child of God, I hope you’ve had a wonderful week by God’s grace.
Mine was kind of cool thanks to Him. I learned so much this week and I’m so grateful to God.
If you’ve been around this blog for some time, you’ve noticed that I clearly believe that our God still performs miracles, and He can do so in the twinkling of an eye. God is not limited by our circumstances and He is able to perform miracles in our lives right now.
Nevertheless, there’s one thing which could limit or slowdown God’s miracle performing power in your life. I hope you’re ready to hear this:
A Dysfunctional Mindset

  • A wrong mindset can delay your blessings.
  • A wrong mindset can keep you in an endless cycle of sin
  • A wrong mindset can keep you out of your promised land
  • A wrong mindset can blur your perspective so much so that you stop believing that God can do something for you

The moment you stop believing that God can do something for you, something in you has died.
God rewards faith, He always has and He always will.
However, when you choose not to believe in The One who says He loves you, who promises to keep you safely, to transform you, to feed you, to protect you etc.., when you choose not to put your trust in Him, you are condemning your own self.
Not because God doesn’t want to help you anymore, but because the substance needed to effect change in your life is faith.
Without faith it is impossible to please Him.
Hebrews 11:6 MSG

It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that He exists and that He cares enough to respond to those who seek Him.

James 1:6‭-‬8 NLT

But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

A Few Examples of Dysfunctional Mindsets

1. It’s Up to God

At times we go through really desperate situations, but instead of trying to figure out a way to pray about it and fix it, we leave it up to God, and we say “It’s up to Him, if He wants my situation to get better it will”.
God wants your situation to get better, but He wants to do it through you. In Ezekiel 37 when God asked the prophet if things could get any better, he kind of replied “You know if you want it to be better”.
He pushed the responsibility over to God, but God pushed it back to him, making him understand that it was his role to prophesy and effect changes.
Ezekiel 37:3‭-‬8 NLT

Then He(God) asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign Lord ,” I replied, “You alone know the answer to that.” Then He said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the Word of the Lord ! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord .’” So I spoke this message, just as He told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.

2. We Are Like Grasshoppers

Are you a grasshopper or a giant?
When God called the Israelites to conquer the promised land, they were initially discouraged by most of their spies who didn’t focus on how good God was towards them to give them the land, but on how powerful and huge the giants who were already on that land were.
When you focus on your limitations, your sins, your addictions or on your problems, you make them bigger than God, and you’re indirectly telling yourself “These are bigger than God. God cannot solve this”.
This is pure lack of faith, and it can seriously slowdown your deliverance, healing, freedom from sin and from addictions, etc.
Numbers 13:31‭-‬33 NLT

But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: “The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!”

Numbers 14:5‭-‬12 NLT

Then Moses and Aaron fell face down on the ground before the whole community of Israel. Two of the men who had explored the land, Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, tore their clothing. They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! And if The Lord is pleased with us, He will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. Do not rebel against The Lord , and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but The Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” But the whole community began to talk about stoning Joshua and Caleb. Then the glorious presence of The Lord appeared to all the Israelites at the Tabernacle. And The Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them? I will disown them and destroy them with a plague. Then I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are!”

3. Crying Over Spilled Milk

When Samuel the prophet saw that God had rejected King Saul due to his multiple rebellions, justifications for his sins, and refusal to repent, he still didn’t want to let go of Saul.
He spent valuable time crying because he didn’t want God to reject Saul. After all, Samuel had anointed Saul, Samuel had accompanied Saul, Samuel probably had lots of dreams and plans for Saul’s future but it was over.
God had already chosen someone else (David), but Samuel was so focused on Saul (who symbolises the past; regrets; failures; what we wanted to work but which didn’t work) that he wasn’t ready for what was coming up.
In fact because Samuel still had the image of Saul in his mind, he would have missed out on seeing the king in David if he hadn’t listened to God when he went to amount the new king.
1 Samuel 16:1‭-‬2‭, ‬6‭-‬7 NLT

Now The Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.” But Samuel asked, “How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.” “Take a heifer with you,” The Lord replied, “and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord . When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is The Lord ’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but The Lord looks at the heart.”

In the same way, we’re missing out on so much when we spend all our time thinking and crying about what we failed to be, what we are not, what we are, what we should have been, what we should have done, what we prayed for which didn’t work out as planned etc.
Paul understood this so much better than most of us. That’s why he clearly stated:
Philippians 3:13 NLT

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead

If it didn’t work, then it didn’t work. God is able to restore wasted years. The fact that it didn’t work doesn’t mean that you have to spend the rest of your life crying over it.

  • God can still use you despite the sins you committed
  • God can still use you though you made wrong choices in your past
  • God can still transform you no matter how corrupted you have been

Stop crying over spilled milk, and let God transform your present and your future.

Conclusion

Your mindset has an impact on the present you experience and on the future you’ll experience tomorrow. Be assured that most of the things you’re going through today (good or bad) are due to the mindset you had yesterday. If you want things to start changing in your life, start by changing your mindset.
Only an ignorant should expect having different results while having the same old mindset
Romans 12:2 NLT

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Prayer

Father Lord God Almighty, please speak to my heart and open my eyes so that I may realize the areas of my life where I have a dysfunctional mindset, so as to confess them and correct them. Transform me by the renewing of my mind, in Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
