Merry Christmas dear friends and loved ones, I hope you’re all enjoying this day in The Lord.
Here is the last post of our Christmas series this year. I believe we’ve said it all about Christmas, or at least we’ve said so much already.
You probably don’t want to be loaded with any complicated message today, so I’ve narrowed it down to the three Magi because there’s so much to learn from them.
1. Why come to Jesus?
Matthew 2:1-2 NIV
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
The three Magi looked for Jesus not because they wanted to get something from.Him but because they wanted to worship Him. At times we get so familiar with His Name that when we turn to Him it’s just to ask, ask, ask , our prayers become “I, I, I, I”, “me, me, me, me”.
The three Magi teach us this Christmas to pause and just worship Him, offering ourselves and our best to Him, no hidden agenda, just worshipping Jesus.
2. Who did the Magi worship ?
Matthew 2:10-11 NIV
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Little multiple choice question: when the Magi finally found the baby in the manger, who did they worship ?
a) The star
b) Mary (the mother)
c) Joseph (the father)
d) Jesus (The King)
You probably know that they worshiped Jesus. The star led them to Christ, but they didn’t worship the star, they rejoiced when they saw the star but they didn’t worship the star.
They saw the mother of The King of kings, but they didn’t worship her, they worshipped The King of kings.
Learn from the Magi, they didn’t confuse the supply with The Source. Do not confuse the supply with The Source.(One of my favourite sentences from Pastor Steven Furtick )
God used Mary to come into the world, God used the star to reveal Jesus to the Magi, but the Magi were never meant to adore the star or Mary but The Source, The One who made all those possible, or The One for whom all those were made, Jesus Christ.
God used the star (supply) to lead them to The Source (Jesus), God used Mary (supply) to bring forth The Source (Jesus) onto the earth.
Like the Magi did, keep your priorities straight. Yes, thank God that X,y, was there to bring you to Christ, thank God that your pastor/parent/spouse/friend was there to teach you His Word but your pastor/parent/spouse/friend aren’t God, it’s not them you should worship, it’s God.
3. Seek and you shall find
Matthew 2:1-3 NIV
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
What a surprise that those for whom The Messiah came weren’t even aware and it’s strangers who made them know about it.
The three Magi had a hint of God’s presence and they held firmly onto it. They left behind work, family, tasks etc to find Him, and because they seemed Him, they found Him, He made Himself to be found by them.
4. They watched out, listened and obeyed
Matthew 2:12 NIV
And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
It’s because they were always watching out, open and ready to listen to God, to receive a sign from Him that God chose them to see the star and that God told them about Herod’s plans.
When you put yourself in an atmosphere and mindset of faith, ready to listen to God and comply to His instructions, He’ll always choose to speak to you as He did with the three Magi.
I hope what we learned about Jesus through this Christmas series will help as all through our lives, and may we apply the wisdom of the three Magi.
Prayer
Father Lord God Almighty, thank You so much for Your Word and for the good example I learn from the three Magi. I have decided today to prioritize praising You instead of focusing on myself and what I can get from You, I know I can’t do it without Your Help. Help me never confuse the supply with The Source and to have no idols in my life but to adore only You. I want to seek You Lord and to find You. Help me be always in an atmosphere of faith ready to listen to You and ready to obey You. In Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen
God bless you
