Hello beloved creatures of God, I hope you’re fine by God’s grace.
Today in Salvation 101 we’ll talk about the satisfying nature and glorious sufficiency of a relationship with Jesus.
If you’ve not read the previous posts I invite you to check them out here
According to Charles Finney’s revival lectures, if I want to talk to you about the satisfying nature and glorious sufficiency of being in a relationship with Jesus Christ, I can’t do that just in theory, I have to show it to you from my life.
As such, I’ll talk a little bit about myself. I grew up in a Christian home and very early in childhood my Mom told me about salvation and surrendering my life to Jesus Christ, making Him my personal Lord and Saviour. I invited Jesus into my life in childhood, I was probably 7 or 8 years old.
Honestly, my view of a relationship with Jesus Christ keeps growing as the years go by. As I grew up I learned that if I want to be close to God, I first have to draw near to Him consciously and seek Him diligently.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4:8 NKJV
I’ve also learned that I have to read my Bible everyday, and not just once or twice per day. I’ve learned that fasting is a good spiritual exercise not to convince God to bless us (in Christ Jesus we’re already blessed), but in order to focus on God. I’ve discovered that witchcraft and demonic spirits really exist and I’ve also learned that as believers we have authority over these things in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:17-19 NKJV
I’ve learned that without holiness no one will see God, and I have also learned that Jesus Christ made a way for us to be complete free from sin. I’m still learning, but today I’ll give you a few reasons for which having a relationship with Jesus Christ is satisfying and fulfilling.
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
Hebrews 12:14 NKJV
1. Freedom From Sin
When you come to Christ and you’re born again, God gives you a new heart and He recreates your spirit in the image of Jesus Christ. He sets you free from the nature of sin. The Bible describes Jesus Christ as the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He doesn’t just leave you in sin, He saves you from sin.
And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:18, 20-23 NKJV
I know that some churches teach that there are some sins that God will “allow” in your life for you to struggle with all your life to teach you something, but it is a lie from the devil, it’s not written in The Bible at all. Jesus Christ paid the price for you to be completely free from sin.
In fact, when I used to believe those lies, I would see myself as a victim or an addict to a specific sin, but once I learned the truth from God’s Word (and this is a lot thanks to the teachings of Apostle Curry Blake) God set me free of sins I thought I may struggle with all my life or sins I had never imagined I would struggle with but which I struggled with for years. The devil may try to attack again when I’m distracted but by the authority which is in The Name of Jesus Christ I command it to leave, and I sanctify myself and it goes in The Name of Jesus.
This is just to say that when you have a right relationship with Jesus Christ (based on God’s Word and not on false doctrines), you have freedom and joy. The world can’t offer you freedom from sin. The world will make you try hypnosis, drugs and behavioural modification but it will never set you free. Jesus can set you free so much so that you don’t even think of that sin anymore eg. You will have no thoughts for drugs, alcohol, illicit sex, theft etc etc anymore.
2. Companionship and Love
Before returning to The Father, our Lord Jesus Christ promised to be with believers always, even unto the end of times.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
Jesus Christ lives in every believer, and every believer is seated with Him in Heavenly places.
At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
John 14:20-21 NKJV
This actually means that as a Christian, you’re never alone. Ever since I’ve learned this truth, I never have to feel lonely. God is always with me, speaking to me (for example through His written Word, and through His Holy Spirit who brings Scriptures to my remembrance), taking care of me, instructing me, etc. God is good, God is faithful, God provides for His children, God surprises His children with good things, God heals both physically and emotionally, God forgives, God can wipe your shame. Having a relationship with Jesus Christ is the best thing you can ever have. It is awesome. Jesus Christ will never let you down, The Holy Spirit is your very present help in time of need, and you’ll always have the love and companionship you need.
If you make a decision to have a true relationship with Jesus Christ and to grow that relationship, it will be the best decision in your life. Nobody can love you and be present for you always like He does. Just one blog post wouldn’t be enough to describe how sweet it is to have Jesus as your friend, Lord and Saviour.
Today I’m inviting you to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. He can set you free from the sins that are tormenting you. He can set you free from the shame that is weighing you down. He can set you free from the demons that have been oppressing you (eg. Spirits of anger, unforgiveness, depression, prostitution, lust, covetousness, etc). He can heal you and use you to heal the sick in His Name and preach the Gospel. You will never ever be alone again since His Holy Spirit will dwell in you. Even when you face challenges, He will be with you and will fight for you.
You can only gain by surrendering your life to Christ: Protection, provision, Salvation, healing, freedom, joy, power, holiness and the list is exhaustive. You will be so happy to live holy for God and thanks to Him. Your focus won’t be on this life but on your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Remember that tomorrow may be too late to make the right choice. You have to decide today. Do you want to keep serving sin, the flesh and the devil, or do you want to enter into life, to serve God in Christ Jesus and to be whole, free and fulfilled? The choice is yours.
Choose today whom you shall serve, choose and do NOT look back. Keep in mind that if you make the wrong decision it will be a double loss for you since in this life you’ll lose the opportunity to live a fulfilling, blessed, fruitful life in Christ Jesus and you’ll lose the opportunity to spend eternity with God. If you choose the devil as master, you will be a slave to sin all your life and you will spend eternity separated from God, you will suffer through hell, and it will be for eternity. God puts before you life and death today. Choose life that you may live.
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:15-20 NKJV
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 NKJV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 NKJV
Prayer To Surrender Your Life To Jesus Christ and Choose Life
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I make the decision today to turn from my sins and I invite You to come into my life, to set me free, to give me a new nature, to transform my life so that I live a holy life. I surrender myself completely to You Lord, spirit, soul and body. I choose today to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour. My life is Yours. I choose to obey You. Amen
