Salvation, Immortality of the spirit and soul, salvation 101

Hello beloved creatures of God, I hope you’re all fine by God’s grace. As promised in this new series of blog posts entitled “Salvation 101”, we will talk about salvation.

The very first point we’ll talk about is the immortality of the spirit and soul.

Human beings are tri-dimensional beings. The human being is a spirit, who has a soul and a body. In other words, you are a spirit, you have a soul and you have a body.

The body you have now which is also called the flesh will not exist for ever. You were born into this earth with that physical body, and when your spirit and soul leave that body, we call that physical death. However, your spirit (the actual you) and your soul still exist and will exist forever.

When God created Man, He created them male (Adam) and female (Eve). He told them not to eat of the fruit of the tree knowledge of good and evil, and He told them that the day they would eat of it they would die.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 2:16‭-‬17 NKJV

We notice in the Bible that they ate it but they didn’t die physically immediately. We also know that God never lies. So, when they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they died just as God said on that very day, but it was not a physical death yet. They died in their spirits.

At that moment, Man became separated from God and became in bondage to sin and the devil. Every human being after Adam and Eve was born in that state of separation from God, and slavery/bondage to sin/the devil/the kingdom of darkness. This is what we generally call in Christian terminology “the fall”

When your physical body/your flesh will die, your spirit and your soul will still exist for eternity.

The question you have to ask yourself is where then will you (spirit and soul) go, when your flesh would have died?

Your spirit goes where it is most like, and your soul follows. Which means, if your spirit is in a state of death and separation from God (just like Adam and Eve after the fall), if your spirit is in bondage to sin and slavery to the devil, you will obviously go to where it is most like, ie what we call hell. A state of eternal separation from God.

Any human being of the Adamic race is condemned to go to hell, because of their sinful nature inherited from after the fall, since mankind (Adam and Eve) gave themselves (and thus the whole human race) as slaves to the devil by obeying him and disobeying God.

Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

John 8:34 NKJV
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Matthew 25:41 KJV
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 21:8 KJV

Nevertheless, God being good and merciful, had a plan for the salvation of mankind. He sent Jesus Christ, His Son to die on the Cross of Calvary as punishment for the sins of mankind and Christ also descended into hell in our stead. Such that, now whoever believes in Jesus Christ and surrenders to Him and accepts Him as Lord and Saviour is now born again and changes ownership. This person who accepts Jesus as Lord and Saviour is automatically translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, from slave of the devil and sin to slave of righteousness.

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Colossians 1:13‭-‬14 KJV
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

1 Peter 3:18‭-‬22 KJV

Consequently, when their physical body (flesh) dies, their spirit and soul go to be with God, to spend eternity with God, this is generally what we call Heaven/Paradise.

So this is salvation, putting your trust in Jesus Christ, accepting that He paid the price, that He was punished for your sins, surrendering your whole being to Him (spirit, soul and body), accepting Him as Lord and Saviour, and at that moment, He gives you a new nature in your spirit and you are now born-again ie. God Himself recreates you in your spirit in the image of Jesus Christ such that if you were to leave that body at that moment, your spirit and soul would go to be with The Father for eternity.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

I Corinthians 6:9‭-‬11 NKJV

Do you want to surrender your whole self to Jesus Christ? Do NOT delay it, do it now. You may not have the opportunity to do so later, so you’d rather decide now to be right with God. It’s not just about saying a few words to God, you have to mean it deep down, you have to be sincere, you have to count the cost and make a firm decision that you’re not going to live this life for you anymore but for God.

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:6‭-‬10 KJV

Salvation Prayer

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I make the decision today to turn from my sins and I invite You to come into my life. I surrender myself completely to You Lord, spirit, soul and body. I choose today to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour. Amen
